Head subquadrate, with spherically protruding eyes; tempora inconspicuously convergent, nearly as long as eyes; punctation of disc very dense and coarse, pubescence of head sparse, brownish with some white setae on vertex; ventral face of head very shiny, with moderately dense but coarse, pit-like punctation; labrum black; medial margin of each mandible with unicuspid molar near base, molar continuously confluent with medial margin of mandible, left mandible (Fig. 3) with small canine, hardly reaching beyond medial margin of mandible; antennal (Fig. 4) segment 1 distinctly longer than segment 3, segments 5 – 10 trapezoidal in shape; segment 11 rice-grain shaped, segments 1 – 4 reddish-brown, 5 – 7 black and segments 8 – 11 white. Pronotum longer than wide, punctation dense and coarse, two admedian impunctate patches and one mediobasal impunctate patch very distinct, pubescence mostly brownish with some grouped white setae forming several tomentose patches, sparsely bearing several pairs of long black setae laterally. Elytra slightly longer than wide, with distinct humeral angles; punctation dense and fine, pubescence mostly brownish with some grouped white setae forming several tomentose patches; scutellum with a heart-shaped patch of dark tomentose pubescence apically, medial portion densely punctate, portion along anterior margin shiny and impunctate. Tergite VIII (Fig. 8) with posterior margin deeply emarginate; aedeagus (Figs 5 – 7) small, with stout, slightly asymmetrical median lobe; paramere as long as median lobe, bent to left side (ventral view), apical portion (Fig. 7) slightly extends to one side, bearing two groups of peg setae along the inside of the lateral margin, larger and sparser than the known species of this genus. Female. Sternite VIII with posterior margin broadly rounded.	en	Huang, Yujie, Tang, Liang, Zhou, Yu Feng, Wan, Xia (2025): A new species of Sphaeromacrops Schillhammer, 2001 from China (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Staphylininae). F62E87CAC40AC03FFF7219DD2FA9FDE6.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. The new species can be easily distinguished from S. yunnanensis Tang & Cheng, 2020, S. strigosifrons Schillhammer, 2001 and S. gracilis Schillhammer, 2001 by antennal color and the absence of long setae in the median portion of tergites III and IV. It is externally similar to S. antennalis (Cameron, 1932) and S. nepalensis Schillhammer, 2001, but can be distinguished from the S. antennalis by the absence of impunctate, shiny patches between eyes and the very distinct impunctate patches on the pronotum. It can also be distinguished from S. nepalensis by the lateral areas of tergites III and IV covered with long, white pubescence and tergite VIII with the posterior margin distinctly emarginate at the middle. It is also similar to S. varicornis (Coiffait, 1977), but can be distinguished from the latter by front legs with tarsomere 5 longer than tarsomeres 3 and 4 combined (tarsomere 5 shorter than tarsomeres 3 and 4 combined in S. varicornis). The new species has larger and sparser peg setae than the known species in this genus.	en	Huang, Yujie, Tang, Liang, Zhou, Yu Feng, Wan, Xia (2025): A new species of Sphaeromacrops Schillhammer, 2001 from China (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Staphylininae).
