D81487ED782F8A45A0C17DA670F8D0C0.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The female from this study is 910 long and 925 wide, smaller than the measurements given by Cook (1967) and Lundblad (1969). Left and right fourth coxae differ in shape, the left coxae wider than the right coxae. Our female specimen is morphologically similar to H. testudinata. The species is known from India and Burma, and is reported here for the first time for Thailand.	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). D81487ED782F8A46A0C17ACD7711D3F8.taxon	description	Description. See Walter (1911) and Viets (1935). Additional characters: Male idiosoma 834 long and 753 wide, female idiosoma 899 long and 826 wide. Genital field: male 259 long, and 316 wide, female 267 long and 332 wide. The male has an oblique anterior margin of the genital valve, in the female this margin is straight with a short medial extension. The pre-genital sclerite of the male is rhomboid in the male and triangular in the female. The configuration of the mediodorsal plates dg 5 and dg 6 (cf. Harvey 1988) of both sexes is asymmetrical.	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). D81487ED782F8A46A0C17ACD7711D3F8.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Jin & Guo (1993) stated that, in describing M. paddicola Jin & Guo, 1993, the new species differed in the presence of two pairs of posterolateral plates. However, they overlooked M. rouxi, a species they did not mention in the paper. Their illustrations match the description of the latter species, and we therefore propose to synonymize M. paddicola with M. rouxi. The differences in the shape of the pre-genital sclerite and the genital valves was not mentioned by Viets (1935). The species is new for the fauna of Thailand. It has been found on the Aru Islands, Sumatra and Sulawesi (Indonesia, Wiles pers. comm.), China and Thailand (present study).	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). According to Lundblad (1969), the figures of Koenike (1906) are not reliable, and Cook’s species must be synonymized with H. falcipalpis. D81487ED782B8A41A0C17CE1775DD625.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Wen & Zhu (2001) described Limnesia microplatus, and compared it with L. patens Viets, 1935. However, their species is similar to L. volzi in the size, shape of genital field and palp. It matches the description given by Piersig (1906) and Lundblad (1969), and we therefore propose to synonymize L. microplatus with L. volzi. The species is known from Sumatra, Malaysia, China and reported here for the first time from Thailand.	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). D81487ED78278A4DA0C17DD37749D733.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Our specimen measures 356 in length and 186 in width, much smaller than the specimen of Viets (1935) from Java and Sumatra. Lundblad (1969) assigned morphologically similar specimens to U. chappuisi Walter, 1935, a species described from West-Africa. Indeed, both species are very similar, but molecular methods are needed to clarify the taxonomic status of both species. For the time being we prefer to use the name U. similis. The species was previously known from Java and Sumatra. D81487ED78248A4EA0C17D0D72D4D6E1.taxon	discussion	Remarks. The near-absence of genital plates is very unusual in Neumania s. s. as well as in the subgenus Lemienia. Moreover, in males of the aforementioned subgenera, the genital plates are fused into one complete genital field. In the new species, the genital field is more similar to a female genital field. At the type locality, many specimens were collected, all lack the usual genital plates. This applies to young males as well as older males. In the genus Encentridophorus, genital plates are lacking, but this genus has very short apodemes of the anterior coxae.	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). However, in the paratype both genital plates are similar, and are like the left genital plate of the holotype. The new species is similar to P. dadayi (Piersig, 1900), but differs in a less slender palp, and sloping posterior genital plates that extend well beyond the gonopore. Piona platyura Jin & Guo, 1992 has somewhat similarly shaped genital plates, but the small anterior platelet is fused to the posterior platelet, and P 4 has a large ventral extension which is absent in the new species.	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). D81487ED78238A4BA0C17BE6714DD21C.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Eleven Africasia - species have been described from the Oriental region. From Malaysia and Sulawesi Africasia cataphracta (Halík, 1930) is known (Wiles 2004). The female of this species is smaller, 375 long and 350 wide, has very broad first coxae and the lateral ridge of the coxal field extends far posteriorly beyond the insertion of the fourth legs (Halík 1930). Africasia insulana Viets, 1935 from Sumatra is much larger (520 long and 465 wide), the first coxae are more pointed and not extending beyond the anterior idiosoma margin (Viets 1935). Cook (1967) described six species from India. All these species have either radiating lines on the dorsal shield or have a more elongated idiosoma. Africasia acuticoxalis Smit & Pešić, 2014 has medially pointed fourth coxae, is smaller (the female is 365 long and 344 wide) and the dorsal shield has a red patch (Smit & Pešić 2014). Africasia purpurea Pešić & Smit, 2016 from Laos has the dorsal shield with distinct radiating lines and large purple patches (Pešić & Smit 2016). Africasia vietnamitica Pešić & Gerecke, 2014 has the gonopore surrounded by the genital field, which broadens posteriorly (Pešić & Gerecke 2014).	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). D81487ED78218A4BA0C1799A7679D4ED.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Cook (1967) described a similar species from India, A. projectus Cook, 1967. The two species are very similar and, according to Cook (1967), differ in the shape of the idiosoma. Arrenurus projectus has tapering lateral margins, A. spinosus has parallel margins. Given the rather sketchy figure of A. spinosus by Walter (1929), it is very likely that the two species are conspecific. Lundblad (1969) came to the same conclusion. The species is known from Java, India and Burma, and reported here for the first time for Thailand.	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). D81487ED783E8A54A0C17EF572D4D609.taxon	discussion	Remarks. There are several species of Arrenurus with extended anterior coxae and a rounded complete dorsal plate including A. celyonicus Daday, 1898 and A. egathus Cook, 1966. The new species is most similar to A. cornutus Walter, 1929 recorded from Java. This species lacks the rudimentary petiole, and the posterior margin of the cauda is more concave in A. cornutus. Lundblad (1969), who assigned his specimens from Burma to A. cornutus, noted the absence of a rudimentary petiole but overlooked the differences in the shape of the fourth coxae.	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia). D81487ED783C8A57A0C17FB873B7D1A8.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Four Arrenurus species from the Oriental and Australasian regions have similar cauda with a median cleft but they do not broaden posteriorly. Arrenurus dahli Piersig, 1898 from the Bismarck Archipelago has the cauda widest in the middle, while the dorsal shield is elongate. Arrenurus duffelsi Smit, 1996 from Sulawesi has a wider cleft, the dorsal shield is larger and more rectangular and the genital plates are more narrow. The third species is A. santaniensis Wiles, 1997 from New Guinea. This species has a very narrow cleft, and the cauda is not widening posteriorly. The last species is A. aliensis Wiles, 1993, but like in the previous species but the cauda is widest in the middle.	en	SAVATENALINTON, SUKONTHIP, SMIT, HARRY (2017): New records of water mites from standing waters in Thailand, with the description of nine new species (Acari: Hydrachnidia).
