Physalacria jilinensis T. Bau & S.Y. Li , sp. nov. (Figure 2, Figure 3)

MycoBank number:—853848

Diagnosis:— Ph. jilinensis is similar and close to Ph. corneri , but differs from the latter by its globose to subglobose or obtusely conical, with perforations heads. Basidiospores mostly ellipsoid. Sterile hymenium-like structure composed of clavate to broadly clavate or obpyriform cells, rostrate apex present or absent mixed, with cystidia in sterile areas.

Etymology:— “ jilinensis ” refers to its occurrence in Jilin City, Jilin Province, China.

Type:— CHINA. Jilin Province: Laoyeling, Jiaohe County, Jilin City, on the moss layer of fallen broad-leaved trees, 43°40′N, 127°12′E, 422 m, 28 July 2023, Tolgor Bau and Siying Li (HMJAU 68263, holotype!).

Description:—Basidiomata single, scattered, in group. Head 0.5-2.1 mm in diameter, globose to subglobose or obtusely conical, hollow, rugose at maturity, with perforations at top or side parts, white (1A1) when fresh, becoming orange yellow (4AB) when dry, with light brown (5D7) dots (under stereoscope) (Fig. 2d). Stipe 1.0–4.0 mm long, less than 0.5 mm in diameter, white (1A1), equally or tapering downwards, with white (1A1) velvety hairs.

Basidiospores [38/3/1] (3.3)3.4–4.4(4.7) × (2.1)2.4–3.0(3.1) µm, Q=1.31–1.73, Qm=1.47±0.10, ellipsoid to oblong, smooth, thin walled, non-amyloid. Basidia 16–23 × 3–6 µm, clavate, 4-spored, with clamps. Cystidia in fertile areas lageniform, subfusiform, with subcylindrical or subcapitate apex, 35–64 × 9–15 µm, thin or slightly thick walled, mostly with yellow (2A8) encrustations at the top part. Sterile hymenium-like structure composed of clavate to broadly clavate or obpyriform cells, 10–32 × 7–17 µm, rostrate apex present or absent. Cystidia in sterile areas subclavate, subfusiform, 35–74 × 9–17 µm, with yellow (2A8) encrustations at the top part. Stipitipellis a cutis. Caulocystidia abundant, subcylindrical, subfusiform, subutriform with subcylindrical or subcapitate apex, 18–52 × 5–13 µm, with yellow (2A8) encrustations at the top part. Clamps present in all tissues.

Habitat:—Growing on the moss layer of fallen broad-leaved trees in summer.
