Timnewia jeaneae n. sp.

(Figs 1–18)

Male diagnosis. Differing from T. greeni , in having the forewing pterostigma with a spur-vein, in having the central piece of the hypandrium anteriorly almost straight, in having the posterior processes of the central sclerite of the hypandrium distinctly bulged proximally on the outer borders, and in having the posterior border, between the posterior processes convex. Phallosome distinct from that of T. greeni , having the joined side struts stemmed anteriorly, and having a large, transverse mesal sclerite projected posteriorly.

Color. Compound eyes black, ocelli hyaline, with ochre centripetal crescents; head pattern (Fig. 2). Scape and pedicel brown, f1 white, f2–f10 with proximal ends brown, rest of each flagellum white; f11 brown. Mx 1- Mx 3 pale brown, Mx 4 brown (Fig. 3). Femora pale brown; tibiae and tarsomeres 1–3 yellow (Figs 4–6). Forewings (Figs.13, 14) almost hyaline, with a marginal, irregular, pale brown band from pterostigma to Cu1a; pterostigma with several small dark spots, veins dark brown. Hindwings almost hyaline with small dark brown spots distally on veins R4+5, M and Cu2; veins brown.

Morphology. Head with vertex concave in the middle, slightly above the level of the upper border of the compound eyes; compound eyes without interommatidial setae. Antenna with eleven flagellomeres; flagellomere 11 elongate, with a slender distal process (Figs 7, 8). Outer cusp of lacinial tip broad, with nine denticles (Fig. 9). Labral sclerites curved outwards at bases (Fig. 2). Labial palps almost elliptical (Fig. 10). Mandibles asymmetrical, elongate and with outer margin angled (Figs 11, 12). Forewing pterostigma strongly angulate, projected in the middle towards Rs stem, bearing a spur-vein; Rs slightly convex, R2+3 almost straight, R4+5 sinuous, M fourbranched, concave proximally, then straight, M1 almost straight, M2-M4 sinuous. Areola postica tall, wide basally, slightly slanted posteriorly, apically rounded. 2A joining 1A. One cross-vein between 2A and wing margin and three cross-veins between 1A and wing margin in right forewing (Fig. 13); two cross-veins between 2A and wing margin and two cross-veins between 1A and wing margin in left forewing (Fig. 14). Hindwing Rs straight, R2+3 straight, R4+5 slightly convex, M sinuous (Fig. 15). Hypandrium of three sclerites; central sclerite as in diagnosis, flanked by elongate, irregular sclerites, setae as illustrated (Fig. 16). Phallosome (Fig. 17) with side struts stout, fused basally, V shaped, not fused posteriorly to external parameres, the latter elongate and slightly curved inwards, bearing pores distally; mesal sclerite (Fig. 17) as in diagnosis; five pairs of endophallic sclerites, an anterior pair, small, sinuous, anteriorly rounded, narrowing to end, distally acuminate; a antero-mesal pair, almost triangular, anteriorly V shaped, posteriorly with two projections, a stout rounded, almost touching in the anterior margin of mesal sclerite and other lance-shaped, parallel to the antero-lateral corners of mesal sclerite; a posteromesal pair, with indentations in outer margin, anteriorly rounded, narrowing to end, distally with two small acuminate projections; a lateral pair, stout, elongated, curved inwards, anteriorly rounded, posteriorly lance-shaped with a small pre-apical projection; a posterior pair parallel to the inner margin of the external parameres, curved outwards distally and shaped like a bird head. Epiproct wide, almost straight anteriorly, rounded posteriorly, setae as illustrated (Fig. 18). Paraprocts broad, semi-elliptic, sensory fields with 30 trichobothria on basal rosettes, setae as illustrated (Fig. 18).
