The genus name Asiagone is a combination of the words “Asia” and “ Erigone ”, the gender is feminine.

Diagnosis. This new genus is distinguished from all other linyphiids by its peculiar structure of the embolic division, notably, by the long embolus forming a wide loop that is partly covered by a large, flat and complex convector (after Tanasevitch 1998, 2011). The embolus has a structure in the middle or in the distal part, which resembles an exfoliated chitinous tunic of a special, “flag-like” shape (“F” in Figs 5, 6, 13).

Phylogenetics. Monophyly of Asiagone is supported by two putative synapomorphies, derived from the morphology of the male palp, i.e., the coiled embolus partly covered with chitinous tunic and the presence of the large, flat and complex convector, which holds and protects the embolus. Unfortunately, the peculiar structure of the palp, coupled with the absence of corresponding female material makes it difficult yet to hypothesize the closest relatives of this genus. Such are likely to be found among other Southeast Asian erigonines.

Description. Medium - sized Erigoninae, total length 2.00–2.46. Carapace modified or not, eyes normal, or somewhat enlarged, pits presence or not (Figs 1, 7). Chelicerae unmodified, mastidion absent, stridulatory furrows fine. Chaetotaxy: 2.2.1.1, length of spines about 1.5–2 diameter of segment. All metatarsi with a trichobothrium, TmI, 0.41–0.44. Palp (Figs 2–6, 8–14): Patella without special setae. Tibia and cymbium unmodified. Paracymbium simple, L-shaped. Distal suprategular apophysis and median membrane present, both welldeveloped. Radical part of embolic division very small, with a membranous tissue around which connects the convector to the radix. Convector a flat sclerite of variable shape, with its outer margin folded to sheath the distal part of the embolus. Embolus long, thin to thick, forming a loop, near middle or distally bearing a structure (“flag”) of variable shape. Opisthosoma variegated, dorsal pattern present.

Composition. Asiagone signifera n. sp. (the type species) and A. perforata n. sp.

Distribution. P. Jäger.

Remarks. The monotypic genus Paranasoona Heimer, 1984 was established for the Vietnamese P. cirrifrons Heimer, 1984 . A revision of the type material of P. cirrifrons has shown that it is definitely congeneric with Atypena superciliosa Simon, 1894 (the type species of Atypena). This is clearly supported by the somatic characters, e.g., the size, the modified carapace, and the chaetotaxy, as well as by the similar structure of the male palp, e.g., shape of tibia, well-developed distal suprategular apophysis, embolic division with a short, thick embolus directed forward, presence of the embolic tail, as well as very long, stylet-shaped radical apophysis directed downward. They also share the general appearance of the epigynum. Thus, Paranasoona Heimer, 1984 becomes a junior subjective synonym of Atypena Simon, 1894 n. syn.

The genus Diplophrys Millidge, 1995 was erected for two similar species, D. pallida Millidge, 1995 (the type species) from Thailand and D. crocatoa Millidge, 1995 from Indonesia. Later, Platnick (1998) proposed the replacement name Millplophrys Platnick, 1998, as the Millidge’s generic name turned out to be preoccupied by Diplophrys Barker, 1868 (see Platnick 2014 for details). A comparison of the figures and the original descriptions of M. pallida and M. crocatoa, as in case of P. cirrifrons (see above), leave no doubt that both species are congeneric with Atypena superciliosa (the type species of Atypena). Therefore, Millplophrys should also be considered a junior subjective synonym of Atypena, n. syn. Thus, the genus Atypena besides five species mentioned in Platnick’s Catalogue (2014) should include three other species, viz., A. cirrifrons (Heimer, 1984), A. pallida (Millidge, 1995) and A. crocatoa (Millidge, 1995), all n. comb.

Distribution. A. cirrifrons is known from Hanoi, Vietnam (Heimer 1984), Guangxi, China (Zhu & Sha 1992) and Laos.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/A32DAF09FFC0FFDDFF1EFA4BA26CFE3B	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The new species is very similar to B. floralis Tu & Li, 2006 and to the Japanese B. robustus Oi, 1960, but the male can easily be distinguished by the presence of a swollen outgrowth at middle part of the paracymbium and the smaller embolic coil. The female differs by a short but clearly developed scapoid, while in B. floralis and B. robustus the scapoid looks like a small knob, as well as by the loops of the entrance ducts in B. paracymbialis which are wider than in the other two species.

Description. Male (paratype from Tham Pasat Thia, Laos). Total length 1.93. Carapace unmodified, 0.88 long, 0.70 wide, greyish pale brown. Eyes normal. Chelicerae 0.35 long. Legs pale brown, yellow. Leg I, 3.87 long (0.98+0.23+1.03+0.98+0.65), IV, 3.89 long (1.05+0.20+1.03+0.98+0.63). Chaetotaxy. TiI: 2-1-1-0, II: 2-0-1-0, III-IV: 2-0-0-0; metatarsi spineless. Suprategulum with two apophyses: one as a narrow stripe bifurcated apically directed forward, other one wide and rounded directed downward. Embolic plate (sensu Beatty & al. 1991; Saaristo 1995) (= lamella or lamella characteristica auct.) large, flat, with dorsad projection proximally. Embolus relatively thick and short, coiled. Opisthosoma 1.03 long, 0.48 wide, dorsally with a buckling in first third. Colouration: anterior part of opisthosoma pale, posterior part grey with indistinct pale transverse stripes.

Female (paratype from Oudomxai City). Total length 2.00. Carapace unmodified, 0.90 long, 0.65 wide, greyish pale brown. Eyes normal. Chelicerae 0.40 long. Legs pale brown, yellow. Leg I, 3.91 long (1.00+0.25+1.05+0.98+0.63), IV, 3.79 long (1.00+0.25+1.03+0.88+0.63). Chaetotaxy. FeI: 1-1-0-0, II: 1-0-0-0, III-IV: 0-0-0-0; TiI: 2-1-1-0, II: 2-0-1-0, III-IV: 2-0-0-0; metatarsi spineless. Metatarsi I–III with a trichobothrium each. TmI, 0.23. Opisthosoma 1.08 long, 0.68 wide, dorsally without buckling, grey to dark grey, in some specimens with indistinct pattern of pale transverse stripes. Epigynum (Figs 20–23): Anterior wall with a small conical scapoid (= scapus, auct.), posterior median plate with a narrow parmula. Entrance ducts making two wide loops. Receptacula almost spherical.

Variation. Body and leg coloration vary from pale to dark; the paracymbial outgrowth can be pointed to rounded, edge of scapoid can be transparent, which makes it shape visually different from the depicted in Figs 20–22.

Distribution. Steinmetz.

Remarks. Hylyphantes birmanica Thorell, 1895 was previously considered a Southeast Asian vicariant of the Palearctic H. graminicola (see Tanasevitch 2010). These species differ in the position of a denticle in the distal part of the male palpal tibia, as well as in the location, more exactly, inclination of the receptacles of the epigynum. A study of material, both new and old, from different parts of the Palaearctic shows that all those minor differences reflect individual variations. Thus, a H. graminicola male collected from Muang Sing, Laos has a denticle, versus its full absence in a syntopic male. Similarly, the location, size and even presence of a denticle is often observed in H. graminicola from various parts of the Palearctic. The degree of the inclination of the epigynal’s receptacles also varies individually, depending as well on the extent of chemical maceration of the supporting tissues during epigynum clearing. Therefore, the record of H. birmanica in Myanmar must be considered as referring to H. graminicola . Hence, H. birmanica Thorell, 1895 becomes a junior subjective synonym of H. graminicola (Simon, 1881), n. syn.

Distribution. In The Oriental Asia: Vietnam (Tu & Li 2005), Myanmar (Thorell 1895) and Laos.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/A32DAF09FFCDFFD2FF1EF9C5A0EDFD20	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The genus Gorbothorax Tanasevitch, 1998 was erected for five Nepalese erigonine species, based exclusively on males, with G. comatus Tanasevitch, 1998 as type species (Tanasevitch 1998). A comparison of Gorbothorax representatives with species of the Southeast Asian genus Nasoona reveals a similar palp conformation, a similarly modified carapace, the same chaeto- and trichobothriotaxy, as well as a variegated body. The type species of both these genera are considered congeneric, thus, Gorbothorax Tanasevitch, 1998 becomes a junior subjective synonym of Nasoona Locket, 1982 n . syn. One of the characteristic features of Nasoona is the presence of an additional sclerite in the embolic division connected through a membranous tissue with the embolus, but lacking a duct (see Figs 33–35; 39–42). This sclerite seems to support and protect the embolus. A similar structure is found in species of numerous erigonine genera, e.g. Oedothorax Bertkau, 1883, Gongylidioides Oi, 1960, etc. Merrett (1963) termed this sclerite a “lamella”, putting it in quotation marks to emphasize its provisional designation, which would later be replaced by a special name. To designate this additional sclerite in the embolic division in Oedothorax, Tanasevitch (1998) proposed the term “convector”, which in Latin means “companion.” In addition to a convector, the embolic division in Nasoona has another additional sclerite, small, tightly adjoined to the distal part of the convector, which is to be named here as a paraconvector (see Figs 35, 41). Locket (1982), in his paper on West Malaysian linyphiids, designated this sclerite a “hinged lamella” while the convector was referred to as the “radical part of the embolus”. Both homology propositions seem to be incorrect. The sperm duct running from the suprategulum, through the loose membranous tissue of the column, to the embolic division misses the so-called “radical part” before entering the flagelliform embolus (see Figs 33, 34). This sclerite that does not have the sperm duct going through it is homologized here to the convector (“lamella”, in the sense of Merrett (1963); “radical part of the embolus” in the sense of Locket (1982)).

Species included. The species name is derived from the Latin word “hamatus, -a, -um”, meaning “hook-shaped” and refers to the peculiar shape of the cymbium; adjective.

Diagnosis. The new species is similar to T. tricaudata, but differs well by the hook-shaped posterior cymbial outgrowth (versus nipper-shaped in T. tricaudata), as well as by the shape of the more compact terminal apophysis.

Description. Male holotype. Total length 1.40. Carapace unmodified, 0.63 long, 0.51 wide, pale brown. Eyes normal. Chelicerae 0.23 long. Legs yellow, with longitudinal dark stripes. FeI, 0.78, Leg IV, 2.45 long (0.68+0.18+0.58+0.63+0.38). Chaetotaxy unknown (usually, all tibia with two dorsal spines), spines mostly lost, in type species all tibiae with 1 dorsal spine, no femoral or metatarsal spines. Metatarsi I–III with a trichobothrium each. TmI, 0.16. Palp (Figs 75–80): Tibia without special spine. Cymbium with a large, proximal hook-shaped outgrowth. Paracymbium relatively small, toothless. Lamella characteristica totally reduced. Terminal apophysis large, well-sclerotized, looks like lamella characteristica. Embolus with Fickert’s gland inside, thumb present. Opisthosoma 0.75 long, 0.48 wide, dark grey with vague, irregular, white, small spots.

Female. Unknown.

Taxonomic remarks. The monotypic genus Theoa was erected by Saaristo (1995) for Theonina tricaudata Locket, 1982, which had originally been described from West Malaysia (Locket 1982) and later found in the Seychelles (Saaristo 1995). The palp structure, i.e., modified cymbium, totally reduced lamella characteristica and the position of Fickert’s gland inside the embolus, clearly supports the generic inclusion of the new species in genus Theoa .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/A32DAF09FFD0FFCEFF1EFF0BA244FBFD	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
