(2024): 2, Japan.</p><p>Material examined.</p><p>AREIS-0009 –0010, 32.7–41.9 mm SL, <a href="https://tb.plazi.org/GgServer/search?materialsCitation.longitude=126.620255&amp;materialsCitation.latitude=33.249584" title="Search Plazi for locations around (long 126.620255/lat 33.249584)">Wimi Port</a>, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, Korea, 33°14′58.5″N, 126°37′12.9″E, hand net, October 2024, coll. by Min-Soo Kim et al.</p><p>Description.</p><p>Meristics and measurements are shown in Table 1. Moderately elongated body. Head and snout short, snout steeply pointed. Eye moderate and round. Interorbital space highly narrow. Anterior nostril tubular, no tentacles. Posterior nostril pore-like and near eye. Mouth oblique. Lower jaw protrudes slightly more than upper jaw does. Posterior of maxilla extend anterior border of eye. Chin lacks barbels or folds. No free ray on pectoral fins. Pelvic disc complete, with well-developed frenum. Caudal fin rounded. Scales on prepelvic and belly area. Head, opercle, and cheek scaleless. Multiple longitudinal papillae on head.</p><p>n = number of specimens.</p><p>Cephalic sensory canal pores (Fig. 1 B): Anterior oculoscapular canal part with B′, C (single), D (single), E, F, G, and H′. Posterior oculoscapular canal part with K′ and L′. Preopercular canals part with M′, N, and O′.</p><p>Coloration.</p><p>When fresh, background color of the body light brown. Upper body darker with some dark brown spots scattered. Diagonal black bar under eye extends to chin. Five black blotches present along the body; last spot located at base of caudal fin, undivided, and rounded. Abdominal region relatively bright. One black spot on male’s first dorsal fin center, located distally from base of fin, with yellow band above it. After being preserved, whole body color turns pale brown. Spots color faint, but five black blotches clearly alongside body.</p><p>Distribution.</p><p>Favonigobius reichei is a euryhaline fish with a wide distribution range (Fig. 2). Known from east and south Africa, the Red Sea, Madagascar, Seychelles, and Mauritius (Mascarenes) to Northern Australia, New Guinea, New Caledonia, the Marshall Islands, and Southern Japan (Akihito 2002; Fricke et al. 2018). Additional verified records are known from Hong Kong, India (Chennai), Indonesia (Madura Island; Padang, western Sumatra), Iran (Makran Sea), Japan (Ryukyu Islands), Malaysia, Palau, the Philippines, Singapore, Tanzania (Bajamoyo), Thailand, Vanuatu, and Vietnam (Ha Long Bay, Nha Trang, Mekong Delta) (Kimura et al. 2009, 2018; Larson et al. 2008; Nip and Wong 2010; Matsunuma et al. 2011; Allen and Erdmann 2012; Prokofiev 2016; Sadeghi et al. 2017; Taki et al. 2021; Elloran 2025; Fricke et al. 2025).
