Type species: Philanthus coronatus Fabricius, 1790 [= Sphex coronatus Thunberg, 1784], designated by Shuckard, 1837: 246.</p> <p>Diagnosis. Apical antennal article rounded and a little flattened at apex which bears an oval polished area extending onto ventral surface; a subantennal sclerite present and defined by lines from antennal sockets through tentorial pits to clypeus; pronotum raised and not closely appressed to scutum; hindwing media diverging near or in front of Cu-a; female sternum VI not cleft apically (Bohart &amp; Menke 1976).</p> <p>Distribution.
