756087A088588067B6E9FD33E2474A8A.taxon	description	Description. Male (Fig. 1 A). Body reddish-brown, length 1.99 mm. Head subrectangular, slightly wider than long, HL 0.41 mm, HW 0.44 mm, dorsal surface coarsely punctate, with large and round punctures (Fig. 2 A); vertex with median ridge anteriorly connected with U-shaped sulcus that connects foveae; antennomeres subquadrate, clubs loosely formed by apical three antennomeres; each eye composed of about 20 facets. Pronotum about as long as wide, PL 0.45 mm, PW 0.46 mm, coarsely punctate (Fig. 2 A). Elytra wider than long, EL 0.58 mm, EW 0.72 mm, narrowed at base, discal striae extending to near elytral apex, curved laterally at apices; sutural striae complete. First protarsomeres (Fig. 1 A) with long setose projection at apices. Abdomen wider than long, AL 0.55 mm, AW 0.70 mm, coarsely punctate and with long setae; tergite VI (Fig. 2 C) concave, with two long lateral projections, tergite VII (Fig. 2 C) strongly concave at base. Aedeagus strongly asymmetric, length 0.29 mm, ventral lobe elongate, broad at base and narrowing toward apex, curved leftwards in ventral view; dorsal lobe longer than ventral lobe, broad and curved ventrally, acute at apex (Fig. 2 E – F). Female. Unknown. Comparative Notes. The new species is morphologically similar to the other three new Indian species described below. These species share coarsely punctate heads, pronota, and tergites IV, a similar position of the male abdominal modifications, and form a distinct B. besucheti species group (here termed) within the genus. Batriscenellus besucheti can be readily separated from B. carltoni, B. cuccodoroi, and B. loebli by the protarsomere I having a long setose projection at the apex, a unique character lacking in all other congeners. Otherwise, the presence of two projections at the posterior margin of tergite VI, the basally strongly concave tergite VII, and form of the aedeagus also help to clearly separated the new species from similar relatives.	en	Yin, Zi-Wei (2017): Eight new species and two new records of Batriscenellus Jeannel (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae) from China and India. 756087A08850806CB6E9FEA6E3F34E99.taxon	description	Description. Male (Fig. 7 A). Body reddish-brown, length 2.18 – 2.24 mm. Head subrectangular, wider than long, HL 0.40 – 0.43 mm, HW 0.51 – 0.52 mm, dorsal surface finely punctate (Fig. 7 B); vertex lacking median ridge, U-shaped sulcus only indicated at anterior margin; antennomeres subcylindrical, clubs formed by apical three antennomeres; each eye composed of about 30 facets. Pronotum about as long as wide, PL 0.48 – 0.49 mm, PW 0.48 – 0.50 mm finely punctate (Fig. 7 B). Elytra wider than long, EL 0.74 – 0.76 mm, EW 0.82 – 0.83 mm, narrowed at base, shallow discal striae extending to apical 2 / 3 of elytral length; sutural striae complete. Protibiae with small apical bunch of setae. Abdomen wider than long, AL 0.48 – 0.49 mm, AW 0.48 – 0.50 mm, tergite IV (Fig. 7 C) with sparse and shallow punctures, with distinct triangular tubercle at posteromedian portion, and two much smaller tubercles lateral to tubercle. Aedeagus (Fig. 7 D – E) strongly asymmetric, length 0.38 mm, with elongate and erect ventral and dorsal lobes, ventral lobe laterally projecting near middle. Female. Unknown. Comparative Notes. At present, this new species cannot be placed in any known species groups within the genus. The unique presence of a distinct triangular tubercle on the posteromedian portion of male tergite IV, and the elongate and erect aedeagal ventral and dorsal lobes quickly separate B. pengzhongi from all other known congeners.	en	Yin, Zi-Wei (2017): Eight new species and two new records of Batriscenellus Jeannel (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae) from China and India. Head subrectangular, slightly wider than long, HL 0.38 – 0.39 mm, HW 0.46 – 0.47 mm, dorsal surface coarsely punctate (Fig. 9 A); vertex with thin median ridge, U-shaped sulcus connecting foveae weakly developed; antennomeres short, subcylindrical, clubs formed by apical three antennomeres; each eye composed of about 30 facets. Pronotum about as long as wide, PL 0.47 – 0.48 mm, PW 0.48 – 0.49 mm, coarsely punctate (Fig. 9 A). Elytra wider than long, EL 0.65 – 0.69 mm, EW 0.76 – 0.78 mm, narrowed at base, discal striae shallow and curved, extending to apical 3 / 5 of elytral length; sutural striae complete. Mesotibiae each with one small apical spur. Abdomen wider than long, AL 0.55 – 0.57 mm, AW 0.70 – 0.72 mm, finely punctate and with short setae; tergites lacking modifications. Aedeagus (Fig. 9 D – E) strongly asymmetric, length 0.34 mm, ventral lobe short, broad at base and narrowed toward apex, dorsal lobe much longer than ventral lobe, strongly curved apically and pointed at apex. Female. Unknown. Comparative Notes. This new species is similar to members of the B. similis (Sharp) and B. uenoi Nomura species groups, but lacking setose patches between the metacoxae (present in B. similis group) and modified metafemora (modified in B. uenoi group) in the male. Batriscenellus simplex is similar to B. orientalis (Löbl) from Shanghai, Zhejiang and Taiwan, in sharing relatively short antennae and simple abdominal tergites. They can be separated by the coarsely punctate head and pronotum, and lack of setose patches between the metacoxae in B. simplex. The coarsely punctate head and pronotum is shared with B. abdominalis from Hong Kong, but the latter species has a small cavity on the posterior portion of male tergite IV.	en	Yin, Zi-Wei (2017): Eight new species and two new records of Batriscenellus Jeannel (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae) from China and India. Aedeagus (Fig. 9 F – G) strongly asymmetric, length 0.32 mm, ventral lobe short, broad at base and narrowed toward apex, dorsal lobe much longer than ventral lobe, strongly expanded preapically, strongly curved apically and narrowing toward apex. Comparative Notes. Batriscenellus strictus is placed in the B. uenoi group based on the simple abdominal tergites of the male. All three known species of the group, i. e., B. uenoi from Japan, B. femoralis Yin & Li (in Yin et al. 2011) from Zhejiang, eastern China, and B. hongkongensis Yin & Wang (in Wang et al. 2015) from Hong Kong, southern China, have modified metafemora. By contrast, B. strictus has apically constricted profemora of the male, and thus can be readily separated from the three above-mentioned species. Female.
