2E6387BAFFDD1D0C978DF9C0EEA2758F.taxon	discussion	Remarks: Niphargobatoides lefkodemonaki was originally described by Sket (1990) as a member of Niphargobates. Karaman G. S. (2016) later moved the species to the newly erected genus Niphargobatoides. Up to date, it is known only from the type locality. The validity of the genus remains to be tested using molecular methods. As pointed out in a recent paper (Sket & Karaman G. S. 2018), the diagnostic traits of Niphargobates Sket, 1980, Niphargobatoides Karaman G. S., 2016 and another niphargid genus, Chaetoniphargus Karaman G. S. & Sket, 2019 evolved convergently. It is possible that all these genera are nested within the genus Niphargus and their validity is questionable (Sket & Karaman G. S. 2018).	en	Ntakis, Alexandros, Karaouzas, Ioannis, Fišer, Cene, Stoch, Fabio (2020): An annotated checklist of the Niphargidae (Crustacea: Amphipoda) of Greece. 2E6387BAFFDF1D0D978DFF51ED1477D9.taxon	discussion	Remarks: This species was found near the lakeshore of Lysimachia and Trichonida. It belongs to the N. longicaudatus Costa, 1851 species complex. Recently, Karaman G. S. (2018 b) questioned the validity of this species. He compared the topotypic specimens with N. graecus and found no substantial differences between the two (sample S- 7335 from Lake Lisimachia, Klisovremata, Agrinio [central part of Greece], 24.04.2004, 4 exp. [leg. Fišer & Verovnik]). In this checklist we treat both species as valid, as N. graecus has not been sequenced and its taxonomic status was not checked by molecular methods. Cryptic species within N. longicaudatus complex are common (Eme et al. 2018) and some genetic differentiation cannot be ruled out.	en	Ntakis, Alexandros, Karaouzas, Ioannis, Fišer, Cene, Stoch, Fabio (2020): An annotated checklist of the Niphargidae (Crustacea: Amphipoda) of Greece. 2E6387BAFFD81D0A978DFD35E81B7198.taxon	discussion	Remarks: Recently, Karaman G. S. (2017 a) has redescribed this species, using the original material and additional specimens from the central and western part of Greece. According to the author, N. graecus and N. aitolosi have morphological similarities, sharing the same locality at the lower part of Acheloos system, including the lakes of Lysimachia and Trichonida. Molecular analysis of N. graecus from all known localities is therefore required to solve the taxonomis status of different populations.	en	Ntakis, Alexandros, Karaouzas, Ioannis, Fišer, Cene, Stoch, Fabio (2020): An annotated checklist of the Niphargidae (Crustacea: Amphipoda) of Greece. 2E6387BAFFD81D0A978DFAD1EDE273E8.taxon	discussion	Remarks: The distribution of the species is restricted to Crete Island; it has been found so far only in the type locality. There are some morphological similarities with N. rhodi from Rhodos Island. The occurrences of these two species are limited on their own island, which are separated by kilometers of sea and were not in contact in recent times, supporting their species status (Karaman G. S. 2016 a).	en	Ntakis, Alexandros, Karaouzas, Ioannis, Fišer, Cene, Stoch, Fabio (2020): An annotated checklist of the Niphargidae (Crustacea: Amphipoda) of Greece. 2E6387BAFFDA1D08978DFB89ECFF723D.taxon	discussion	Remarks: Niphargus lourensis skirosi is related morphologically to N. lourensis Fišer, Trontelj & Sket, 2006. There are few minor morphological differences that justify its attribution toa separate subspecies (Karaman G. S., 2018 c). As the males of the nominal subspecies are not known, accurate comparison cannot be achieved. In addition, the two species inhabit different zoogeographical regions, the subspecies N. l. skirosi in the central Aegean Sea and the nominal subspecies in Epirus, northwestern Greece. Hence, the subspecies status needs to be revised using molecular tools.	en	Ntakis, Alexandros, Karaouzas, Ioannis, Fišer, Cene, Stoch, Fabio (2020): An annotated checklist of the Niphargidae (Crustacea: Amphipoda) of Greece. 2E6387BAFFDB1D16978DFE5DE80876D4.taxon	discussion	Remarks: N. rhodi shares the type locality with N pararhodi increasing the number of Niphargus on the island to two. Karaman S. (1950) described the species based one single female, while Karaman G. S. (2017 c) redescribed it using the original specimen and a juvenile male. It is unclear whether N. rhodi and N. pararhodi are valid species, given that N. rhodi and N. pararhodi are described upon a single female and a single male, respectively (Karaman G. S. 2017 c, 2018).	en	Ntakis, Alexandros, Karaouzas, Ioannis, Fišer, Cene, Stoch, Fabio (2020): An annotated checklist of the Niphargidae (Crustacea: Amphipoda) of Greece.
