Holotype:— CHINA. Yunnan Province, Pingbian County, Daweishan National Forest Park, on rotten angiosperm wood, 27 June 2019, Dai 19867 (BJFC 030716).

Etymology:— Submelanoporus (Lat.), in reference to the species being similar to Nigrofomes melanoporus .

Description:— Basidiocarps perennial, resupinate to effused-reflexed, without odour or taste, hard-corky when fresh, woody-hard when dry. Pilei more or less triquetrous, projecting up to 1 cm long, 10 cm wide and 5 cm thick at base. Pileal surface dark brown to black, velutinate to glabrous, more or less concentrically zonate and sulcate with a crust; margin blunt, black. Pore surface mouse grey to vinaceous grey when fresh, reflecting light, colour unchanged when dry; sterile margin indistinct, very narrow to almost lacking, vinaceous brown; pores angular, 8–10 per mm; dissepiments thin, distinctly lacerated. Tubes greyish brown to vinaceous grey, dark grey to black, woody-hard, up to 2.5 cm long. Context vinaceous grey, woody-hard, distinctly concentrically zonate, up to 2.5 cm thick. Hyphal structure:—monomitic; generative hyphae simple septate; all hyphae IKI–, CB –; tissue darkening in KOH. Context generative hyphae hyaline to pale brown, thick-walled with a wide lumen, rarely branched, frequently septate, more or less regularly arranged, 3.5–5 µm diam. Tubes generative hyphae hyaline to pale brown, thin- to slightly thick-walled with a wide lumen, rarely branched, frequently septate, 3–5 µm diam; cystidia absent; cystidioles present, ventricose, 8–17 × 5–8.5 µm; hyphal pegs occasionally present; basidia barrel-shaped, with four sterigmata and a simple septum at the base, 10–13 × 6–7 µm; basidioles in shape similar to basidia, but slightly smaller. Basidiospores broadly ellipsoid, hyaline, thin-walled, sometimes with a big guttule, IKI–, CB –, (3.9–)4–5.1(–5.2) × (3–)3.1–4.3(–4.5) µm, L = 4.77 µm, W = 3.78 µm, Q = 1.22–1.32 (n =60/2).

Additional specimen examined (paratype):— CHINA. Yunnan Province, Pingbian County, Daweishan National Forest Park, 26 Jun. 2019, on angiosperm stump, Dai 19838 (BJFC).
