Syn. Paramictoides Koçak, 1980: 145 ; Nota Lepidopterologica 2 (4): 145. A replacement name for a junior homonym Amictoides Gerasimov, 1937 .

Redescription. Male. Head. Eyes roundish, antennae scapus thickened, pedicellus disc-shaped, antennal pecten densely scaled dorsally, ventrally ciliated. The antennae are bipectinate without scales, long ventrally ciliated, decreasing evenly in length towards the apex. Head densely covered with long, hair-like scales.

Thorax. Legs long and hairy. Foreleg with a long and narrow tibial epiphysis. Tibia of the mid- and hindlegs with tiny spurs distally. Forewings elongated, mostly densely covered with short hair-like scales; venation with 10 veins from dc, r3+r4 and m2+m3 mostly stalked. Dc with a simple median vein (rarely divided). On hindwing m1+m2 are mostly short-stalked, median vein not forked (rarely divided), sc and rr fused and mostly connected to the dc with a bar. Cross connections between the veins are absent.

Abdomen. Often protruding the hindwings. Mostly densely covered with long hair.

Male genitalia. The shape of the male genitalia and the abdominal sclerites is very characteristic for the genus with very little difference between the species. The small differences are difficult to evaluate and probably can only be considered by accurate statistical analysis of a larger series of specimens. The long tegumen is evenly rounded dorsally with an even, inwardly folded edge. The vinculum is long and narrow, at the broadest with small, protruding lobes at the sides, the size of which varies with the species. The vinculum continues evenly into a saccus, which is usually thickened again caudally. The valvae are short and broad and do not protrude beyond the tegumen. The clasper is curved inwards and bears about 6 pointed conical spines distally. The pulvillae at the base of the valvae are weakly set off and bear many very fine-pointed sensilla. The phallus is a uniformly thick tube with barely indicated curvature. The distal end is two-lobed with a ventral inversion. The vesica is up to 1/3 of the penis length filled with many very fine granules.

Female. Apterous, maggot-shaped and wingless. The antennae are not developed or indicated as tiny bumps. Instead of the eyes mostly small pigment spots are present. The legs are reduced to two segments and bear a pair of claws distally. The females remain in their pupal shell in the case and in this manner, mating takes place. After the mating procedure, the females lay their eggs directly in the case. The females have no diagnostic features for species identification.

Early stages. Mostly unknown. The hitherto known larval cases are generally built of silk and they are covered longitudinally with fragments of twigs and leaves in a very similar way. The caterpillars are polyphagous and feed on different herbs like Vicia spp. (de Freina, in litt., Fig. 2) and grass.

Redescription. Head. Frons and vertex long darkish brown hairy. Eyes EI 0.36. Antennae more than half of forewing length with 33–34 pecten.

Thorax. Covered with long darker brownish hair. Wings. Wingspan 26–28 mm, forewing length 11–13 mm. Forewings stretched, costal margin mostly straight, rarely slightly concave in the basal third. Termen straight or roundish, partially oblique, apex mostly pointed, partially roundish. Dark brownish to light greyish brown, hindwings with the same colour. FI 1.94. Scales mostly hair-like, very weak lanceolate scales mixed with short, bifurcated scales.

Abdomen distinctly protruding the anal margin of the hindwings.

Male genitalia. GP 4160 (fig. 38), 4161. Tegumen distinctly pointed, broadly folded laterally. When closed valvae not protruding the distal end of the tegumen. Valvae broad, clasper of the sacculus distally pointed with a long thorn and 4–5 short spines. Cucullus broad and short, directed downwardly. Vinculum triangular with two broad lobes laterally. Saccus short, broad. Phallus slightly bent, hammer-shaped, two-lobed distally with a ventral inversion.

Female. Unknown. Larval case. Length 40–50 mm, width 10–12 mm. Covered longitudinally with twigs (Fig. 1c, d).

Distribution. Widespread and frequent from the central part of the Anatolian peninsula in Turkey eastwards to the Iraq border, through the Anatolian high mountains along the Black-Sea coast and the Caucasus region.

Discussion. Originally described based on two males. The only specimen of Amicta caucasica Bang-Haas, 1912 in MfN is labelled as the lectotype by Dierl, but this designation act was never published. Herewith, we designate the only specimen of Amicta caucasica , preserved in the collection of MfN as the lectotype of this species. This species was transferred to Oiketicoides by de Freina (1983). He already mentioned the uniformity in phenotype and genitalia of the Turkish populations. Hence, he correctly proposed the synonymy of O. subgrisea with O. caucasica . Moreover, both taxa are completely similar to O. armena . Sobczyk (2011) treated them as separate species. At present extensive material from different localities in Turkey is available for our studies. The studied material brought us to the conclusion that all mentioned taxa are conspecific without any doubt. Regardless of this observed great similarity, Kozhanshikov (1956) described A. borealis from Dagestan (Russia) as a separate species. The only noted difference of A. borealis from O. armena is the smaller size of the specimens and minute differences in the male genitalia. Furthermore, while describing A. boreali s Kozhanshikov compared diagnostic characters with those of O. lutea . However, a fresh male specimen, collected in Dagestan and preserved in the collection of WRA clearly shows, that the mentioned differences fall within the natural range of intraspecific variation. There can be no doubt that O. borealis is a junior synonym of O. armena .

Etymology. The species is named after its slender and tiny general appearance.

Diagnosis. A very characteristic species by its slender and tiny general appearance. It resembles slightly O. centralasiaticae sp. nov. in male genitalia, but the valvae are narrower, the cucullus longer and the clasper of the sacculus covered with 4–5 long spines. The vinculum is less triangular.

Description. Head. Frons and vertex are densely covered with light brown hair. Eyes EI: 1.0. Antennae of nearly three-quarter of costa length, with very long pecten and 32–34 segments.

Thorax. Wings. Wingspan 19–24 mm, forewing length 9–12 mm. Wings short, costal margin slightly concave at the basal third. Apex roundish or sometimes pointed, termen and posterior margin straight. Less densely covered with very thin light greyish brown scales, often with two dentations and deeply bifurcated. The costal margin is darker brownish and more densely scaled. The fringes of all wings are distinctly darker brown. FI 1.90. Hindwings of the same colour as forewings.

Abdomen. Protruding distinctly the hindwings, conical and densely covered with yellowish-grey hair.

Male genitalia. GP 4169 (Fig. 44). Valvae slightly protruding the distal end of tegumen, tegumen stretched, pointed, and broadly folded laterally. The valvae are slender, cucullus slender and long, directed downwardly. The cucullus of the sacculus is distinctly stretched and covered with 4–5 long outwardly directed spines. The vinculum is less triangular, lateral lobes are hardly visible. The saccus is relatively long and distinctly lobeshaped.

Female. Unknown.

Larval case. Unknown.

Distribution. Widespread in Central Asia. Records were taken in the western Tien Shan in Uzbekistan, the Alai Range in Kyrgyzstan, and the Romit (Ramit) reserve near Dushanbe in Tajikistan.
