This species was collected together with Z. dentatifemur (Pic, 1912), Z. spinifemur n. sp., Z. srilankaensis n. sp. and Z. intermedia n. sp. The sample contained a large series of females, which I could not assign to the respective species. In particular, Z. brunnea n. sp., Z. srilankaensis n. sp. and Z. intermedia n. sp. form a very homogeneous group. Their males are easily distinguished by stable sexual characters (aedeagus, teeth on the tibiae, hooks on the femora), but in spite of extensive comparisons of the females collected with them, I could not decide whether these females represented one or more taxa, nor which.	en	Gompel, Nicolas (2020): Synopsis of the Asian species in the genus Zarcosia Collado & Alonso-Zarazaga 1996 with new combinations and descriptions of fourteen new species. Sri Lanka: Central, Kandy district, Victoria Rendenigala Ramtembe Sanctuary, 07 ° 13 ’ N 80 ° 57 ’ E (445 m) (M. & J. Wasbauer) 23. VIII. 1999 (1 ♂ paratype, UCDC; 1 ♂ paratype, NGPC). Note. This species was collected together with Z. dentatifemur (Pic, 1912), Z. spinifemur n. sp., Z. srilankaensis n. sp. and Z. brunnea n. 039187D8FFCABB1CFF188026FF63FBCA.taxon	description	Description. (Figure 3 a – b). Body length. ♂: 3.70 ± 0.28 mm (n = 6); ♀: 3.98 ± 0.29 mm (n = 12). Entirely black, slender, with long appendages. Body shape reminiscent of strict cave beetles (Carabidae: Trechini or Leiodidae: Leptodirini). Pubescence dense, very short, almost pulverulent, composed of stout bristles arising from the punctation, interspersed with very short whitish hairs, arising from the entire body surface, and giving a mat appearance to the insect. Head (Figure 5 a – c). As wide as pronotum in dorsal view. Eyes bigger in males than in females. Palpi black, last article securiform, as broad as the length of the first two antennomeres together. Frons deeply carved in males, flat in females. The deep pit on the male forehead differs in shape from that of Zarcosia palliditarsis (Pic, 1912) (Figure 5 e – g) and possesses a long and wavy tuft of silky yellow bristles, borne from the bottom of the head pit. Antennae. Filiform, 20 % longer than elytra in males, hardly longer than elytra in females. Pronotum. Slightly longer than wide. Sides convergent in their anterior third, otherwise roughly parallel to each other, with a slight sinuosity or constriction. The dorsal surface is regularly rounded, with an anterior gibbosity. Combined, the anterior gibbosity and the slight posterior constriction place the largest width of the pronotum in its anterior third. Base of the pronotum with two sinuosities: one at the level of the midline and two flanking this first one, on each side. Sexual dimorphism: in males, the dorsal surface is posteriorly impressed by ill-defined foveola that singles out a carena-like bulge along the midline. Elytra. ♂: 2.61 ± 0.18 mm (n = 6); ♀: 2.71 ± 0.21 mm (n = 12). 2.3 longer than wide in both sexes, with sides slightly but regularly curved in females, straight, convergent in their posterior half in males. Dorsal surface moderately convex. Legs. Black, except the second half of the penultimate and the last tarsal segment that are orange in both sexes. Surface of femora micro-reticulated. Sexual dimorphism: (i) Tibias of forelegs and hindlegs slightly thickened and sinuated in males, flattened on their inner face; (ii) first tarsal segments of mesothoracic legs thickened in males (Figure 5 d, left); (iii) hindtarsae extraordinarily elongated in males, in particular the last segment, which is 50 – 70 % the length of the first tarsal segment (Figure 5 d, right). By contrast, in females, the last segment of the hindtarsae is 40 % the length of the first tarsal segment. Aedeagus. Figure 4 i. Slender, narrow, sides weakly convergent in dorsal view. Slight curvature in lateral view, with apex sharply bent upward.	en	Gompel, Nicolas (2020): Synopsis of the Asian species in the genus Zarcosia Collado & Alonso-Zarazaga 1996 with new combinations and descriptions of fourteen new species. In both cases, the head capsule is carved dorsally and possesses a wavy brush of long yellow bristles. This sexually dimorphic trait is reminiscent of cephalic modification in some Scydmaenus species (Scydmanenidae), while these bristles are similar to the trichomes present in Paussinae Carabidae and other inquilines.	en	Gompel, Nicolas (2020): Synopsis of the Asian species in the genus Zarcosia Collado & Alonso-Zarazaga 1996 with new combinations and descriptions of fourteen new species. This species was collected together with Z. dentatifemur (Pic, 1912), Z. spinifemur n. sp., Z. brunnea n. sp. and Z. intermedia n. 039187D8FFD0BB06FF188173FA8EFE9A.taxon	distribution	Distribution. Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City (Figure 1). Note on type material: There is no specimen of Zarcosia labelled subglaber from Pic’s collection at the MNHN. There is, however, a single specimen of Zarcosia with multiple labels « Zarcosia inglaber n. sp. » from Pic’s handwritting. This specimen also carries a locality label « Saigon [= Ho Chi Minh city], 5 VI 1950, J. Barbier ». Given that no other Aderidae to date has a species name with the radical * glaber *, it is likely that the name inglaber is a lapsus calami, and that Pic meant subglaber. This hypothesis is reinforced by the original description of subglaber, for 3 reasons. First, the only Zarcosia that Pic described under this genus (rather than under Hylophilus or Xylophilus) is Zarcosia subglaber. Among all the Zarcosia in Pic’s collection, a single specimen is labelled « Zarcosia » with Pic’s handwriting, the very specimen mentioned above and labeled « Zarcosia inglaber n. sp. ». Second, in his description of Zarcosia subglaber, Pic explicitly indicates that the material was given to him by Jean Barbier, who collected it in Saigon. Finally. Pic writes in his paper « Voisin de lateniger Pic », referring to the similarity between Zarcosia subglaber and « lateniger ». Although I could not find out what « lateniger Pic » is, the specimen labeled « Zarcosia inglaber n. sp. » also carries a label that reads « sp près lateniger » from Pic’s handwriting. Together, these elements unambiguously support that the specimen labeled « Zarcosia inglaber n. sp. » at MNHN was used by Pic for the description of Zarcosia subglaber Pic, 1952. I design it here as a lectotype and have added a label « Zarcosia subglaber Pic, 1952, Lectotype ♀, N. Gompel des. 2020 ».	en	Gompel, Nicolas (2020): Synopsis of the Asian species in the genus Zarcosia Collado & Alonso-Zarazaga 1996 with new combinations and descriptions of fourteen new species.
