Devetak (1998) reported P. vulgaris as the rarest Panorpa species. No record south of Slovenia was known. Our material represents the first records of P. vulgaris from Bulgaria (see Fig. 1 for distribution) and from the Balkans except its northernmost hook in Slovenia. It is interesting that P. vulgaris was recorded in Bulgaria in the lowest altitudes only, the maximum heigth is 227 m a. s. l. in Stara Zagora vicinity. Checklist of Bulgarian taxa of the genus Panorpa All species reliably confirmed for Bulgarian fauna are listed in the following checklist. The species marked with an asterisk (*) are published after 2010 for the first time for Bulgaria.
