Koopman & Więcław hybr. nov. [= Carex diluta M. Bieb. × C. distans L.]

Plant monoecious, glabrous, yellowish-green, caespitose. Leaves 12–25 cm × ca 4 mm, yellow-green, flat, shorter than the flowering stems; stomata hypostomous (on the abaxial side of the leaves); lowest leaf sheaths brown, entire; ligule rounded, with cream-coloured free border; antiligule rounded at apex, with hyaline border, notched. Flowering stems 40–60(–75) cm long, erect, obtusely trigonous, smooth. Inflorescence 12–25(–35) cm long; lowest bract ca. 15 cm × 3–4 mm, leaflike, longer than the lowest spike, shorter than the inflorescence; 1 male spike, 2.5–3 cm × 2–3 mm, with smooth, 2–3 cm long peduncle; male glumes ca. 4 × ca 1 mm, light brown with wide scarious margin, top acute with minute teeth; 3–5(–7) female spikes, 2.5–3 cm × 3–4 mm, erect, shortly stalked, the lowest spike with 3–4 cm long peduncle; female glumes 2–2.5 × 1.5–2 mm, shorter than the utricles, light brown with broad lighter midrib, ending in short mucronate and serrulate tip. Utricles ca. 2.8 × ca. 1.8 mm, dull greyish-green with purple spots, veined, with short beak, beak teeth minutely serrulate inside. Nuts mostly not developed, but some are, so this hybrid is partly fertile; stigmas 3.

Type: Armenia, Province of Gegharkunik, NE-side of lake Sevan, gorge NE of Pambak, 2045 m, 40°23’20”N 45°32’19”E, along small stream, 04 Jul 2015, Koopman, J., Więcław, H., Fayvush, G., Oganesian, M., & Vitek, E. 15-0246 (holotype W 2015-0017814; isotype: private herbarium Jac.
