03F387D9FFCAFFF2FF0AFC6E3E0C66E9.taxon	distribution	Distribution. In addition to the type locality, which was the only known location so far, new distribution records somewhat widen the species’ range in northern Albania (Fig. 1 A). Conservation status. This species has not been assessed so far. In the light of the new distribution data, the number of known locations is more than five and the area of occupancy (AOO) is larger than 20 km 2. Provided that no significant threats are known to this species, there is no reason to suppose that the habitat quality, the extent of occurrence (EOO), area of occupancy (AOO), number of locations, number of subpopulations or the number of mature individuals are declining or extremely fluctuating. Therefore, it should be assessed as Least Concern (LC) both at the global and the national level.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFCDFFF4FF0AFAA53D986682.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Welter-Schultes (1996) and Dhora & Welter-Schultes (1996) report on an alleged Platyla pinteri (Subai, 1976) record from Gjirokastër. P. pinteri was orginally described from Epirus (NW Greece), 5 km E of Igoumenitsa. Boeters et al. (1989) provide further locations nearby Igoumentsa and Ioannina (Fig. 1 B), from Cephalonia Island and the southernmost tip of the Peloponnese. Boeters et al. (1989) claim that P. pinteri differs from P. banatica in the following characters: P. banatica is usually larger, especially wider, darker in color and usually has a higher, less flattened neck bulge which is less clearly delimited posteriorly. In the original description, Subai (1976) mentions also the less convex whorls that distinguish P. pinteri from P. banatica. Comparing material from the type areas (e. g. Figs 4 A – B, 4 O-Q), we found no clear difference in the shape and set-up of the neck bulge as well as the convexity of the whorls. Moreover, the shell height ranges of the two species overlap partially [H of P. pinteri: 3.6 – 4.3 mm; H of P. banatica: 4.0 – 5.4 mm] according to Boeters et al. (1989). Among others, the Mt. Maranaj sample in the NHMW (H: 4.0 mm, Fig. 4 E – F.) and also the holotype of P. pinteri (H: 4.2 mm) fall within this overlapping range. The absolute width and especially the relative slenderness (W b / H) of the spire however, seem to distinguish them even within this height range. P. banatica is wider than P. pinteri [W b values are 1.2 – 1.4 mm vs. 1.0 – 1.1 mm], and accordingly, the shortest P. banatica specimens are much stouter than P. pinteri specimens of the same height [W b / H of P. pinteri is 0.25 – 0.26, whereas W b / H of P. banatica is 0.29 – 0.31]. Based on the absolute and relative dimensions of the specimens illustrated by Dhora & Welter-Schultes (1996) and Welter-Schultes (2012) as well as the own collected material from southern Albania, we need to say that P. banatica rather than P. pinteri lives in and around Gjirokastër. Moreover, there is a sample containing two worn shells with calcified deposit in the NHMW from Monolithion (NHMW 85593, Fig. 4 M – N.), which falls within the P. pinteri rather than the P. banatica range. Based on absolute dimensions and the relative stoutness of the shells, however, is stands closer to P. banatica.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFCDFFF4FF0AFAA53D986682.taxon	distribution	Distribution. In the east-west direction, the species ranges from the Dinaric Mts. to the western part of the Southern Carpathians (i. e. the Banat) and the Apuseni Mts. To the north, it reaches the Mecsek Mts. in SW Hungary. Up to now the southernmost known occurrences were from Montenegro and northern Albania. The new records widen the known range of the species southwards. If the Monolithion population proved to be also P. banatica, this would be the southernmost known occurrence of this species and the first one in Greece (Fig. 1 B). Conservation status. The species was assessed as Least Concern at the global level (Fehér 2011 a) because it lives within a relatively wide range and there are several known subpopulations with no known significant threats. The number of known subpopulations in Albania is above five. There is no reason to suppose that the extent of occurrence (EOO), area of occupancy (AOO), number of locations, number of subpopulations or the number of mature individuals are declining or extremely fluctuating. Therefore, it should be assessed as Least Concern (LC) at national level in Albania.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFCFFFF6FF0AF8AC38AA6659.taxon	distribution	Distribution. So far it was known from the western part of the Shkodër Basin (Mt. Rumija, Mt. Kroništar), the new locality record from Drisht not only the first for Albania, but also extends the known range of the species to the southeastern part of the Shkodër Basin (Fig. 1 A). Conservation status. Based on an assumption of a smaller range, this species has been assessed globally as Near Threatened (Fehér 2018 a). Together with the new distribution data, the number of known locations globally is still five and the area of occupancy (AOO) is 20 km 2. No significant threats are known to this species, there is no reason to suppose that the habitat quality, the extent of occurrence (EOO), area of occupancy (AOO), number of locations, number of subpopulations or the number of mature individuals are declining or extremely fluctuating. Until no further locations, and a larger AOO is discovered, the global Red List status can be kept as Near Threatened. Due to the same reason, in the two countries where occur, it should be classified also as Near Threatened.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFC1FFF9FF0AFF7C3D356446.taxon	distribution	Distribution. This species has a relatively wide range from the Central Alps to Central Italy and to Greece, but known records are unequally distributed; while it is relatively frequent in the southeastern Alps (the type locality of the nominate form, P. gracilis is Tolmin in Slovenia) there are only some scattered records in the Balkans. In the neighbourhood of Albania only some localities are known in Epirus (where Acicula graeca, a junior synonym of this species, was described from), in Lefkas and in Corfu Islands (Boeters et al. 1989). The newly found Lunxheri Mts. populations are geographically close to the type locality of A. graeca in Epirus (Fig. 1 C). Conservation status. Globally it was assessed as Least Concern (LC) because of the relatively large range, numerous known subpopulations and no identified threats (Neubert et al. 2011). Neither in Albania is there any reason to suppose that the habitat quality, extent of occurrence (EOO), area of occupancy (AOO), number of locations, number of subpopulations or the number of mature individuals are declining or extremely fluctuating. But there are only two known locations in Albania, and therefore, it qualifies for the Near Threatened (D 2) category at the national level.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. In the original description of P. corpulenta, Subai (2009) mentions a locality at Arras, far to the east of the Shkodër Basin. However, that material was proved to be a juvenile P. albanica.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFC1FFFAFF0AFA243D5362D6.taxon	discussion	Remarks. At the time of the description of P. corpulenta, there were only four known P. procax specimens from one location and only nine adult P. corpulenta specimens from two locations (see notes at Distribution about the identity of the third P. corpulenta population mentioned by Subai (2009). Based on this, Subai (2009) treated P. corpulenta as a distinct species, which has a larger (H of P. procax: 3.25 – 3.65 mm whereas H of P. corpulenta: 3.68 – 4.3 mm) and relatively broader shell, a larger aperture, a better arched apertural rim and not any neck bulge. Since then, further specimens from more locations became available. Taking all of them into account an apparent overlap is found both in absolute sizes and in relative stoutness (W / H ratio) values. Neither the presence / absence of a weak neck bulge proved to be a reliable distinguishing feature: this feature considerably varies within populations whenever a larger set of shells are studied. Although the P. procax paratype specimen, illustrated in side-view by (Boeters et al. 1989: fig. 154 b = Fig. 7 C) has an apparent neck bulge, the holotype has hardly any (Fig. 7 B). And also, some of the larger and stouter, typical corpulenta - like individuals also bear a neck bulge (e. g. Figs 7 I, 7 K). Based on these new findings, it seems unjustified to further distinguish P. procax and P. corpulenta, so we suggest to treat the latter as the junior synonym of the former one. Conservation status. According to the latest global assessments (Fehér 2011 b, 2018 b), P. procax was classified as Vulnerable D 2 and P. corpulenta as Least Concern. In the light of new distributional data and according to this new taxonomical concept, P. procax has more than five known locations / subpopulations globally and its area of occupancy (AOO) is supposed to be above 20 km 2. As there is no reason to suppose that the habitat quality, area of occupancy (AOO), number of locations, number of subpopulations or the number of mature individuals are declining or extremely fluctuating and there are no specific threats to this species, it qualifies for the Least Concern (LC) category at the global level. At the country level, however, there are less than five known locations and less than 20 km 2 AOOs both in Albania and Montenegro. Hence, at the national level it classifies as Near Threatened for both countries.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFC2FFFCFF0AF9703D356322.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. Shell slender fusiform, colourless to horn-brown, with 4 ½ – 6 slightly convex whorls. In frontal-view, body whorl usually occupies less than half of the total shell height (Hb / H ratio is around 0.5). Aperture in the frontal view angular to rounded oval, with a characteristic sinulus. Parietal callus clearly recognizable, passing into the columella; Angularis is missing. Umbilical callus very thin, extends up to about the middle of the parietal wall. In side-view, the upper part of the aperture stands slightly upwards; apertural rim is asymmetrically arched: the most pronounced part is located higher than the mid-line, and the rim leans backwards steeper above this than below. Sometimes (but not always) there is a neck bulge-like structure behind the apertural rim: a not clearly delimited, vague swelling.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFC2FFFCFF0AF9703D356322.taxon	discussion	Remarks. Max Beier visited Kaligoni first in 1929, which trip was followed by two further ones in 1932 and 1933. Käufel (1930) described Hyalacme beieri on the basis of two specimens collected during the first visit. The material of the following two collecting events were studied by Klemm (1962), who claims that further 26 specimens were found in 1932 and 1933. It is logical to conclude that the museum items NHMW- 75000 / E 28625 and NHMW- 79000 / K- 6701, labelled without dates but with the indication of locality as Kaligoni, must came from 1932 or 1933, and as such, they must not be types. Klemm (1962) determined the material from Nisista (NHMW- 79000 / K- 6708) and Platanoussa (NHMW- 79000 / K- 6709) as Acicula transsilvanica, whereas that from Kaligoni as Acicula beieri. At the same time, Klemm (1962) notes that the elongated shell, attributed to Acicula beieri by Käufel, is not generally characterize this population; apart from the holotype each specimens’ shell height is in the 1.9 – 2.0 mm range. Later, Boeters et al. (1989) synonymized both beieri and transsilvanica under Platyla similis. Shell characters of the two recently found South Albanian populations, one of them described as P. ceraunorum by Reischütz et al. (2016), seem to fell within the intra- and inter-population variability of this species. Accordingly, we should treat P. ceraunorum as the synonym of P. similis. Sysoev & Schileyko (2009) mention the name Platyla similis as a junior synonym of Platyla oedogyra (Paladilhe, 1868) without providing any justification, and MolluscaBase (2021) follows this (mis) interpretation. This is somewhat difficult to understand, especially in the light of the fact that the systematic position of P. oedogyra was investigated very thoroughly by Boeters et al. (1989) and they came to the conclusion that P. oedogyra is a junior synonym of Platyla polita (Hartmann, 1840). The P. oedogyra specimen, illustrated by Sysoev & Schileyko (2009: fig. 2 d) exhibits very similar characters of P. polita and does not resemble P. similis at all. Thus, we see no reason to depart from the concept of Boeters et al. (1989) and therefore, we consider P. similis as a valid name and P. oedogyra as the junior synonym of P. polita.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFC2FFFCFF0AF9703D356322.taxon	distribution	Distribution. This species is patchily distributed within a relatively wide range (Boeters et al. 1989). The range includes the Appennines down to southern Italy and Sicily, the Southern Carpathians in Romania, the Stara Planina Mts. in Bulgaria and eastern Serbia, the Rhodope Mts. in southern Bulgaria and northeastern Greece (e. g. Fig. 6 M), the southern part of Serbia, the Shar Mts. in Kosovo, the Ionian Islands, and the Ionian coast from southern Albania down to the Peloponnese (Fig. 1 D). Conservation status. Globally it was assessed as Least Concern (LC) because of the relatively large range, numerous known subpopulations and no identified threats (Páll-Gergely 2011). 03F387D9FFC4FFFFFF0AFD813F4065D2.taxon	distribution	Distribution. This species is distributed along the Adriatic shore from southern Dalmatia (Omiš) to northwestern Albania (Mt. Renc). Very frequent in the Kotor Bay area and in the Rumija Mts (Boeters et al. 1989). Inland it spreads up into the Morača Valley in Montenegro and into the valleys of Cem, Kir and Drin Rivers in Albania (Fig. 1 D). Conservation status. Due to the fact that the number of the known subpopulations is at least 15 – 20 and there are no identified threats, it was assessed globally as Least Concern (Fehér 2011 c). In Albania, and also in Montenegro, there are more than five known subpopulations and the areas of occupancy (AOO) are larger than 20 km 2 in both countries. Hence, this species qualifies as Least Concern at the national level in Albania and also in Montenegro. Genus Renea Nevill, 1880 Type species: Renea bourguignatiana Nevill, 1880 O. 03F387D9FFC7FFE0FF0AFAD0391760EA.taxon	distribution	Distribution. It was previously known from the Mt. Orjen above Herceg Novi, the Kotor Bay area the Shkodër Basin and the Byshek Spring at Central Albania. Newly found localities extend the known range to southern Albania. The item from Virpazar (NHMW- 75000 / E 48623) is worth of some further discussion. This sample was collected by Petar Dabović in the 1930 s, passed somehow to the Viennese private collector, Aemilian Edlauer and finally landed in the NHMW Mollusc Collection. Virpazar is a small historical town with a fortress. In the past decades, various malacologists sampled in and around Virpazar, including E. Gittenberger, H. Nordsieck, A. and P. L. Reischütz, P. Subai and the authors of this paper, but none was able to refind this species. The case is similar to those of Virpazaria backhuysi E. Gittenberger, 1969, Virpazaria ripkeni E. Gittenberger, 1969 or Agathylla biloba (A. J. Wagner, 1914), which species also have samples in the NHMW from Virpazar according to label information, arrived from the Edlinger collection, and originally collected by P. Dabović, but also them have never been refound in or around Virpazar (see Fehér et al. 2014, 2019). This either means that their label information refers to the Virpazar area in the broader sense or we can not exclude the possibility of mislabelling. Both might discredit the validity of this locality record.	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings. 03F387D9FFC7FFE0FF0AFAD0391760EA.taxon	discussion	Remarks. When R. kobelti albanica was described, the nominate form was known from two locations (Kameno and the Ljuta Spring), and there were three other samples (Virpazar, Kir River and Byshek Spring) with six individuals of which only one from each site was full grown. Boeters et al. 1989 claimed that these individuals are larger sized, slenderer, denser ribbed and have more smooth embrional whorls. We had the opportunity to study further samples from the Kotor Bay, from northern and southern Albania. In Laç we could not obtain intact specimens, all what we have are either juveniles or decollated / damaged adults. Therefore, we compared dimensions and rib density values of the body whorl across the available populations. W b and H b values strongly correlate (linear regression R 2 = 0.93), i. e. higher individuals are also wider and vice versa. Smallest individuals are from the type locality of the nominate form (Kameno), largest ones are from Laç. Extrapolating from the body whorl dimensions, their shell height values might be estimated from 5.5 to 6.5 mm. The holotype from Byshek Spring is of the same size as the smallest individuals in Laç. The other two R. kobelti albanica are even smaller. Rib density seems to be independent from shell dimensions (Fig. 10.). The Virpazar and Byshek specimens are really denser ribbed than the average, but also in Laç there was a shell, ribbed in the same way. The densest ribbed shells are from Kelcyrë. Some of the Kameno specimens are really widely-ribbed, but not all. H b: W b ratio varies between 1.35 and 1.52, stoutest individuals are in Kelcyrë but the populations can not be clearly distinguished by this character. Summing up, the height / width ratio and rib density values were found to vary within-population too much to be good distinguishing features. Moreover, the newly found Albanian populations confuse the clear geographic pattern claimed by Boeters et al. 1989 as the southernmost Kelcyrë population resembles the most to the typical R. kobelti from Kameno. Although the absolute dimensions vary between populations, there are no features to clearly distinguish two or more taxa, therefore, R. kobelti albanica should be considered as the synonym of the nominate form. Conservation status. At the time of the global assessment, the number of all known locations was five, and having no specific threat on this species it was assessed as Near Threatened (NT) (Fehér 2011 d). Due to recently discovered new locations, the number of known subpopulations is above five globally, but individually in Albania and in Montenegro remains below five. Accordingly, the global assessment needs to be reconsidered to Least Concern (LC), but the national assessements both for Albania and for Montenegro should be Near Threatened (D 2).	en	Lika, Romilda, Deli, Tamás, Paparisto, Anila, Erőss, Zoltán P., Fehér, Zoltán (2021): Contribution to the taxonomy and distribution of Aciculidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Caenogastropoda) in Albania and the surroundings.
