Description (male). Head (Figs 1 A–B, 2A) mostly greenish yellow, with irregular brown markings enclosing ocelli and on super-antennal plate and lorum, and pair of large brownish markings on vertex; head including eyes nearly as wide as base of mesonotum; ocelli reddish; distance between lateral ocellus and corresponding eye much longer than that distance between the two lateral ocelli; postclypeus moderately prominent, with black stripes along transverse grooves mid-anteriorly and large blackish marking mid-posteriorly; anteclypeus with large irregular blackish marking; rostrum brownish with apical half light ochreous, extending to apex of hind coxae.

Pronotum (Fig. 1 A) mostly light greenish yellow; with pair of central longitudinal dark ochraceous fasciae broadened at both anterior and posterior ends; paramedian fissure and lateral fissure with narrow dark ochraceous fascia; a small, somewhat triangular dark ochraceous spot adjacent to posterior part of central longitudinal black fasciae; large and small fuscous spots near lateral angle of pronotal collar; anterolateral margin of pronotum well ampliated, pronotal collar dentate. Mesonotum (Fig. 1 A) light greenish yellow, with the following dark ochraceous marks: a slender central longitudinal fascia which is distinctly broadened on both anterior and posterior ends; a pair of short and outwardly curved lateral fasciae distinctly broadened anteriorly and fused with the central longitudinal fascia; a pair of inwardly curved long stripes lateral to the short outwardly curved fasciae, with posterior end indistinctly connected with the broadened posterior part of central fascia; a pair of short fasciae and several small irregular spots more laterally; a pair of roundish spots enclosing scutal depressions. Ventral surface of thorax greenish yellow, without distinct marking.

Legs (Fig. 1 A–B) mostly pale greenish yellow; apices of tibiae and tarsi dark ochraceous. Fore femur with primary spine prostrate; secondary and subapical spines erect, sharp and short.

Wings (Fig. 1 A–B) hyaline; fore wing with infuscations along cross veins r and r-m, CuA2 vein and roundish infuscation present on each apex of veins RA2, RP, M1–4, and CuA1; hind wing with continuous infuscation along basal veins of apical cells 1–3, forming a zigzag mark.

Abdomen (Fig. 1 A–B) mostly pale greenish yellow; cylindrical but slightly wider across abdominal segments 3–4, and much longer than distance from head to cruciform elevation; tergites 6–8 with tiny white hairs and dense pollinosity; tergite 8 with pair of large dark ochraceous spots near posterior margin; timbal cover semicircular; timbal partially exposed with seven ribs and three intercalary ribs (Fig. 2 A). Operculum (Fig. 1 B) pale mostly greenish yellow, broader than long, with anterolateral part black, somewhat triangular, covered with tiny white hairs and pollinosity; lateral margin gradually inwardly curved; posterior margin rounded, reaching nearly to posterior sternite II; medial margins convex, not touching to each other.

Genitalia (Fig. 2 C–D). Pygofer oval in ventral view; dorsal beak short, somewhat triangular, very slightly protruding upwards in lateral view; distal shoulder distinctly curved outwards in ventral view; basal lobe of pygofer absent; uncus with large triangular median cleft between bases of uncal lobes in ventral view; paired uncal lobes long, touching each other from close to bases to apices, with inner apical angle nearly acute.

Female. Unknown.

Measurements (3♂♂, in mm, mean (range)). Length of body: 38.5 (37.1–40.2); width of head including eyes: 9.4 (8.3–10.2); forewing length: 39.2 (37.1–41.8); width of pronotum (including pronotal collar): 11.0 (10.6–11.5); width of mesonotum: 10.0 (9.4–10.5).

Biology. Unknown.

Distribution. China (Hainan Prov.).

Etymology. The specific name is after the locality of the holotype.

Remarks. This new species closely resembles S. watanabei (type species of Semia ) in the morphology of male genitalia, but can be distinguished from the latter by the following characters: anterolateral margin of pronotum well ampliated; median stripe on pronotal collar absent; mesonotum with outwardly curved fasciae adjacent to the central longitudinal fascia short, not connected to the inwardly curved long lateral stripes; timbal cover without fascia on margin; distal shoulder of male pygofer distinctly outwardly curved in ventral view; uncal lobes in ventral view broader and connected to each other from close to the base to apex but not fused basally (viz., with a large triangular median cleft basally). In addition, a recent molecular phylogenetic investigation of the species of Semia , including S. watanabei , using DNA barcoding analysis also confirms this species a separate barcode lineage different to other lineages (Yang & Wei., in prep.).
