Ignatov & Huttunen

This is a cryptic species that grows in (sub)alpine areas with late snow-lie in Alpine and northwestern Europe (Frey et al., 2006; Blockeel et al., 2014). By the characteristic lanceolate leaf it is similar to the more common species B. velutinum and B. salicinum, hence some specimens may be confused and difficult to identify (Orgaz et al. 2013, Blockeel et al. 2014). In the neighboring countries, this arctic-montane species is present in Greece, Montenegro, Romania and Slovenia (Sabovljević et al., 2008; Ros et al., 2013). In Serbia it was reported only from Prokletije Mt (Martinčič, 2006). Further confirmation is needed.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03CB8790FF8BFFEF14FA01D6FD666394	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. See Agosti, D., Egloff, W., 2009. In Europe this arctoalpine species is present in Iceland, Norway, Italy and Romania (Hodgetts 2015). Italian record is more than 100 years old, and hasn’t been revised ever since (Ros et al. 2013). In Serbia, due to the consideration within higher taxa, it hasn’t been included in the previous check-lists for the country (Sabovljević et al. 2008, Ros et al. 2013, Hodgetts 2015). The only known report from the area is from Prokletije Mt. in Kosovo (Martinčič 2006), and this is where the only citation for the country comes from (Pantović & Sabovljević 2017). Katić (1906) gave shallow description of the taxa, but without an illustration or information about original material. Its taxonomic status is problematic, and some authors consider it as form of E. ciliata (Horton 1983, Pavić et al. 1998), without material studied. Though, without original material its taxonomic status still remains unclear, requiring further research. There is no herbarium specimen and searching the area where from it was reported did not give results to find similar material to that one reported in the Katić (1906). National Parks and everal, mainly historical, findings of S. magellanicum and S. medium in the territory of Serbia. However, these two species have often been treated as synonyms in the past. Martinčič (1968) also accepted this synonymous concept in his research of Serbian bryoflora, which is probably why Serbian records of S. medium have been overlooked and not cited in recent national or regional checklists (e. g. Gajić et al., 1991 and Hodgetts 2015). Latest molecular studies have shown that these two species are clearly separated, both taxonomically and geographically (Hassel et al. 2018). According to Hassel et al. (2018) S. magellanicum has been confined to the South America only, while S. medium together with newly described S. divinum is, among other continents, present in Europe as well. Since S. medium has been reported in Serbia previously under this name, we consider it present in Serbia, and all previous records confine to this species. However, there are no preserved herbarium specimens from Serbia, so it remains unclear weather any of these records belongs to the newly described S. divinum. Some of the previous reports of S. magellanicum / S. medium could be S. divinum, but we could not consider it in this list since no herbarium material is available. S. magellanicum should be rejected from the Serbian moss flora.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03CB8790FF86FFE214FA0634FB1D676B	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Brid.

This rare species is not reported from any other Balkan countries, while the only record for Serbia, without precise locality, was given by Popović (1966). It is suboceanic boreal-montane species, difficult to distinguish from U. bruchii, especially when lacking sporophyte (Blockeel et al. 2014). Although original herbarium specimen has not been found, this record is very unlikely considering its western and southwestern European distribution, hence should be rejected from the Serbian moss list.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03CB8790FF86FFE214FA0450FE6D604B	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
