Holotype. IB 20010094
Type information. Russia, Republica Altai, Ulagan Valley, Tschagakol, alt. 2100 m, under Betula rotundifolia and Pinus sibirica in Sphagnum , 23 August 2001, IB 20010094 (Holotype).
Description. See Moser & Peintner (2002) on page 10.
Notes. Moser & Peintner (2002) described Cortinarius herpeticus f. altaicus based on the morphology. However, our phylogenetic analyses showed that Cortinarius herpeticus f. altaicus is not a forma of Cortinarius herpeticus and formed a separate clade in Thaxterogaster . Here, we propose it as a new rank and a new combination.
