Material studied. Holotype male. FINLAND, Ks, Kuusamo, Iivaara, 23.VI.1964, R. Tuomikoski (MZH).
Description. Male. Head. Colours faded in the specimen studied. Eye bridge 2 facets wide. Setae of face not visible in the specimen. Clypeus with 3 dark setae. Maxillary palpus with 3 segments; segment 3 longer than segment 1, with 7 short truncate setae; segment 2 shortest, with 1 long sharp seta and 5 shorter truncate setae; segment 1 with one long sharp seta, and a dorsal patch of sensilla. Antennal flagellomere 4 2.3x as long as wide, neck shorter than broad; longest setae as long as the width of flagellomere. Thorax. Setae dark. Setae of anterior pronotum and prothoracic episternum not visible in the specimen. Scutellum with 2 long setae. Wing. Length 1.7 mm. Anal lobe distinct. Width/length 0.40. R1/R 0.55. c/ w 0.70. r-m and bM non-setose. Haltere pale brown. Legs. Yellowish. Front tibial organ with dark vestiture, forming a straight row ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 A). Front tibial spur slightly longer than tibial width. Abdomen. Setae dark and strong. Hypopygium, Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 B, C. Gonocoxa longer than gonostylus; ventral setosity sparse, setae at the apical part of mesial margin not elongated. Gonostylus elongated, narrowed towards apex and base, mesial side impressed at apical half; setosity sparse, apicomesially with a few elongated setae; bearing a long and curved apical tooth, with 5 subapical megasetae (subequal in size, slender, slightly curved, sharp, about as long as the apical tooth). Tegmen with roundish lateral sides, broadest at middle, without a dorsal finger-like process.

Etymology. The species is named after the late Professor Risto Tuomikoski ( 1911–1989), the founder of modern sciaridology.
