Etymology. Named after Ashley B. Gurney (1911–1988).

Distribution. Günther (1977) examined specimens from Mexico ( Baja California, Sinaloa, Sonora), California, Arizona, Oregon, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. He assigned Florida material as E. gurneyi variety alamellata , due to their lack of hind tibial lamellae and slightly different color pattern. The records below confirm its presence across nearly the entire state of Florida, in habitats ranging from wet roadside ditches to xeric scrub. The species is also herein newly recorded from Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Texas.
