Material examined. 1 female (CW 16.41 × CL 15.77 mm), station IP03, 13.viii.2018 ( CCDB 7455 View Materials ); 1 ovigerous female (CW 22.79 × CL 22.70 mm) station SM06, 04.xii.2019 ( CCDB 7454 View Materials ) .

Geographic distribution. Western Atlantic— Brazil (Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul) ( Rathbun 1925; Melo et al. 1989; Melo 1996; Santos & Coelho 1997; Masunari et al. 1998; Bezerra et al. 2005; Melo 2010; Mantelatto et al. 2020; present study), Orinoco Delta, Venezuela, Caribbean Sea, Margarita Island, Sucre ( Lira et al. 2010). Eastern Atlantic— from Mauritania to Angola; Cape Verde Island ( Manning & Holthuis 1981). Central Atlantic— Ascension Island ( Manning & Chace 1990).

Remarks. This is the first record of Apiomithrax violaceus from Espírito Santo state. The values of query cover (> 90%) and percent identity (> 94%) in the BLAST search were suitable for this identification, since our sequences aligned with other of the same species ( MF490139 View Materials , Mantelatto et al. 2018). Sequence accession numbers (GenBank): CCDB 7454—16S (OR501064), CCDB 7455—16S (OR500063) (present study).
