Remarks. The aedeagus has only one pair of apical processes and the pygofer lacks processes ( DeLong & Wolda 1982: 308, figs 46–50). These features disagree with those proposed for the subgenus Polana .
DeLong & Wolda (1984) described seven species of Polana from Panama, but with no explanation of why they were not placed to subgenera. Based in the descriptions and illustrations, these species are newly assigned to subgenera as follows:
