Remarks. Is clear in the illustration of the Polana robusta aedeagus that it has processes at the base, as also mentioned in the original description: “A pair of processes arise at base and curve ventrally, then apically and dorsally, extending three-fourths length of shaft” ( DeLong 1980: 127, figs 11, 12); the pygofer has a basodorsal apically hooked process ( DeLong 1980: 127, fig. 15). These features support including this species in the subgenus Polana .
DeLong & Wolda (1978) described two species from Panama, placing both in the subgenus Polanana . However, one of them, Polana chena , has long processes on the dorsal apodeme of the aedeagus, which disagrees with the diagnosis of Polanana . Therefore, the following new combination is proposed:
