2. Cobubathinae , one of the most recently described noctuid subfamilies, were established in 2021 by Keegan et al. with support from molecular data. The subfamily comprises three genera, Cobubatha Walker , Tripudia Grote and Aucha Walker , which exibits interesting features that differentiate them from other subfamilies. The most notable characteristics of the subfamily are as follows: tympanum with a narrow, rod-like sclerite extending across the membrane; second abdominal tergite bearing a dense patch of minute middorsal setal sockets and a corresponding scale tuft; and eighth abdominal sternite with a thin lateral apodeme. Larval prolegs are absent on A3 and either reduced or completely absent on A4 ( Keegan et al. 2021).
