5. Eustrotiinae View in CoL View at ENA were separated from Acontiinae by Kitching & Rawlins (1999). Later, Fibiger & Lafontine (2005) and Fibiger & Hacker (2007) established them as a distinct subfamily. The majority of species in the core group share a characteristic forewing pattern in which the orbicular stigma is accompanied by a similar marking— possibly a claviform stigma—positioned obliquely posterior to it. This arrangement gives the orbicular stigma the appearance of being doubled. Together, these two markings are more expansive than the typically B-shaped reniform. The claviform stigma is usually not markedly distal but rather lies approximately halfway between the basal and posterior edges of the orbicular. The forewing pattern is never replicated on the hindwing ( Holloway 2009).
