Characterisation of the species group

Several species in this complex are highly reminiscent of members of the M. monofascia-bispermutata species-groups, although often displaying more contrasting transverse lines. In the male genitalia, the valva is shorter and broader than in the M. bispermutata complex and apically evenly rounded, unlike in the M. monofascia species group. The harpe is considerably shorter and more triangular in the M. furvitincta species group than in the other complexes. The most characteristic feature of this species group is the well-developed, often excessively long, flat and straight laminar, or thorn-shaped and curved carina process, the length and shape of which is an important specific character. The shared female genitalia characters of the species group are the very short, rounded anterior apophysis, the well-developed, heavily sclerotised somewhat infundibular antrum and the small transverse signum bursae surrounded by an extensive ovoid field of fine longitudinal scobination continued in a narrow scobinate area towards the base of the ductus bursae.
