Diagnosis. Hypotrabala lyovushkini sp. n. differs from:
1) H. extenuata with darker medial field (compare Figs 4–8 and 1–2 View Figures 1–8 ), medially slightly narrower tegumen, basally and apically narrower socius, slightly wider valva, lacking lateral diverticulum of vesica, gradually narrowing distomedial processes instead of subapically dilated and then abruptly tapered ones on eighth sternite, wider and shorter apodemes of eighth sternite (compare Figs 11–12 View Figures 11–12 and 9 View Figures 9–10 ), and East African instead of Central African distribution ( Fig. 13 View Figures 13–14 );
2) H. exquisita with slightly darker medial field (compare Figs 4–8 and 1–2 View Figures 1–8 ), basally and apically narrower socius, wider valva, gradually narrowing distomedial processes instead of subapically dilated and then abruptly tapered ones on eighth sternite, wider and shorter apodemes of eighth sternite (compare Figs 11–12 View Figures 11–12 and 9 View Figures 9–10 ), and East African instead of West African distribution ( Fig. 13 View Figures 13–14 ).
Description. Male ( Figs 7–8 View Figures 1–8 ). Flagellum orangish straw. Head and thorax dorsally mottled with dark brown, orangish-straw and white colored scales. Abdomen dorsally orangish-straw, straw and brownish towards distal top. Forewing length: 16–17 mm. Elongated semilanceolate with rounded anal and obtuse tornal angles, wavy outer margin, and rounded apex. Wing pattern consisting of orangish basal field with sparse brown scales, dark brown double fragmented crenulate antemedial line, mottled medial field with orange and brown colored scales, somewhat oval discal spot covered with silvery-white scales, dark brown double fragmented crenulate postmedial line; patchy orange, brown and cream-colored subterminal and terminal fields. Fringe mottled with dark brown and orange scales. Hindwing somewhat ovoid with wavy outer margin. Basal area straw-colored getting orange towards outer margin, costal and tornal areas mottled with dark brown and orange scales. Fringe follows wing coloration. Genitalia ( Figs 11–12 View Figures 11–12 ). Tegumen a narrow band narrowing distally; dorsodistally bearing a pair of socii. Socia somewhat digitiform with wider base, apically covered with setae. Valva somewhat digitiform, cshaped, sparsely covered with setae, narrowing towards apex; apex rounded. Vinculum medially split into two lobes, each somewhat oval, slightly smaller than phallus. Juxta forming tube with lateral apodemes, surrounding phallus. Phallus claw-like, gradually narrowing towards apex. Vesica bag-like with two lateral ridges of denticle-like cornuti reaching apex of phallus. Female unknown.
Distribution and biology ( Figs 13–14 View Figures 13–14 ). Adults were collected all year round only missing in February, June, and July from altitudes up to 1700 m within the East African montane forests and Northern Swahili coastal forests ecoregion ( Olson 2001; Dinerstein et al. 2017) in Kenya.
Etymology. The species is named in honor of the corresponding author’s dearest friend Alexander Lyovushkin (Moscow, Russia).
