Rhynchodemus angustus ( Hyman, 1941) View in CoL
Hyman (1941, as Desmorhynchus angustus n. sp.: 10, fig. 15; PANAMA: Barro Colorado Island)
Hyman (1955: 29–31, figs. 41, 42; PANAMA: Chiriquí: Cerro Punto)
Hyman (1957: 6; PANAMA: Barro Colorado Island)
Hyman (1962: 23; PANAMA: Chiriquí)
External diagnosis ( Hyman 1941). Up to 30 mm long, cylindrical body. Anterior end with a pair of large eyes. Portion anterior to the eyes remarkably long and flat, somewhat wavy. Dorsum uniformly black, shading to lighter grayish drab on the venter. Creeping sole with white ridge ( Figure 35a View FIGURE 35 ).
Remarks. Hyman (1941) described this species as having a uniformly black dorsal color. We found specimens with a dark brown to black dorsal color ( Figure 35b View FIGURE 35 ), sometimes with a slightly darker median stripe, in areas near the locations presented in the original description. Thus, we consider these specimens as possibly belonging to this species.
