Gigantea chiriquii ( Hyman, 1962) View in CoL

Hyman (1962, as Geoplana chiriquii sp. n.: 18–19, figs. 19–20; PANAMA: Chiriquí: Volcán)

External diagnosis ( Hyman 1962). 40 mm long and 8 mm wide. Broad and flat, with parallel margins. Dorsal color grayish brown. A pair of black lateral stripes accompanied by a narrow black margin starts at the anterior tip and extends for about 6 mm, where they are replaced by a marginal zone of black markings. The eyes start as a single or double row that surrounds the anterior tip and posteriorly increase in width and number, occupying the entire width of the marginal markings until the root of the pharynx, after which they decrease in number toward the posterior end ( Figure 4d View FIGURE 4 ).

Remarks. Some specimens from Costa Rica and Panamá partially match Hyman’s description ( Figure 4e–f View FIGURE 4 ). The main difference is the presence of a dark median line, which is not mentioned in the original description, and the yellowish or reddish color, but the latter might be due to the original description being based on preserved specimens.
