Plantas con glándulas negras en tallos, hojas, pétalos y, en general, en brácteas y sépalos. Tallos en general con líneas realzadas o alas en los entrenudos. Hojas decusadas. Estambres en 3(4) fascículos. Estilos 3(4). Cápsula con vitas, longitudinales o laterales, y a veces con vesículas oblicuas.
