Cyrtandra rufa Bakh.f., Blumea View in CoL 6: 398 (1950); Burtt, Edinburgh J. Bot. 56: 375 (1999) .
– Type: INDONESIA. Java, in de berg Mandara, Reinwardt s.n. (holotype L (2 sheets) [L0003276, L0003277]) .
Distribution. Java, possibly Borneo ( Bakhuizen van den Brink, 1950; Burtt, 1999).
Notes. When Bakhuizen described Cyrtandra rufa ( Bakhuizen, 1950) , in addition to selecting a type from Java he also cited two collections from Borneo. These were Korthals s.n. collections from ‘Borneo, without exact locality’. Later, when Burtt described Cyrtandra kalimantana ( Burtt, 1999) , he suggested that these two Korthals collections might actually be Cyrtandra kalimantana , although because they were sterile, it was difficult to be certain. Whether or not Cyrtandra rufa is present in Borneo will need to be considered as part of a full revision.
