Luehea eichleri Schumann (1886: 158) View in CoL .
Type:— BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro: “ Brasilia ”, Luschnath s.n. ( holotype B (destroyed) [F! negative number 9242]) ; Rio de Janeiro: “ Morro do Broco, October 1834 ”, Luschnath s.n. ( lectotype, designated here, BR! [ BR0000005491346 ] ; isolectotype BR! [ BR0000005491582 ]) . [= Luehea conwentzii K.Schum. ]
Schumann’s protologue mentions the label data of a specimen collected by Luschnath and preserved in the Herbarium Berolinense (B). Cunha (1985) accepted the specimen Luschnath s.n. (B) as the holotype of L. eichleri (“ Holotypus – B, non vidi”), presumably was not aware that the specimen was destroyed during the Second World War ( R. Vogt, pers. comm.). With the presence of two duplicates in BR, in accordance with Art. 9.3 of the ICN, we designate herein the specimen (BR0000005491346) as the lectotype by choosing the best-preserved and completed specimen. After having studied the type materials, the application of the name L. eichleri is confirmed as a heterotypic synonym of L. conwentzii , as previously accepted by Cunha (1985).
