Type species. Trypoxylon figulus Linnaeus, 1758 .
Diagnosis. The genus is characteristic as follows: frontoclypeal suture far from antennal socket; middle and lower part of frontal area protrude and change considerably, some species form shield, boat or nasiform shape; inner eye orbits distinctly emarginated, forewing with a submarginal cell, mid tibia with an apical spur and metasomal petiole forms clubbed or flashed shape (Bohart & Menke, 1976).
