Remarks Tese otoliths show many similarities to those of the recent species Diaphus chrysorhynchus , Diaphus garmani Gilbert, 1906 and Diaphus regani Tåning, 1932 (see Schwarzhans, 2013: pl. 11, Fig. 1–5 View Fig View Fig View Fig View Fig View Fig , pl. 10, Fig. 7–11 View Fig View Fig View Fig View Fig View Fig , and 12–16, respectively), as well as the Miocene species Diaphus hataii Ohe & Araki, 1973 (see Schwarzhans et al., 2022: Fig. 9J View Fig –AC). Tese similarities include a marked elevation in the anterior part of the dorsal rim and a wide in height sulcus. However, our fossil otoliths possess a more elongated shape with a more extended posterior rim and are most similar to those of D. chrysorhynchus .
