( Fig. 31 View FIGURE 31 )
Quartinia uzbeka Kostylev, 1935: 106 View in CoL , ♂ (type locality: “ Aman-Katan, Umgesb. [Umgeb.] v. Samarkand 1.500 m. üb. M.” [ Uzbekistan]).
Type material. LECTOTYPE ( DESIGNATED HERE): ♂, labeled “[golden disc] // Аман-Кутан, Самарк [Aman-Kutan, Samarkand] / р., [district?] 1500 м. у. м. [m a.s.l.] 4-VII / В Гуссаков. [ V. Fateryga, 2024 [red label]” [ ZMMU]. PARALECTOTYPES: UZBEKISTAN: Samarkand, Aman-Kutan, 1500 m, 4.VII.1932, 2 ♂, leg. V. Gussakovskij [ ZMMU].
Current status. Valid ( Carpenter 2001; Fateryga & Proshchalykin 2024).
Remarks. Kostylev (1935) reported three males collected in Aman-Kutan on 4.VII.1932 by V. Gussakovskij; a male with a golden disc is designated here as the lectotype (two remaining specimens are with silver discs and without an additional label with Kostylev’s signature from 1941).
Remarks on other specimens labeled as types
Celonites abbreviatus hungaricus Mocsáry, 1877 . There is a female in ZISP, with a golden disc and F. Morawitz’s handwritten labels “Hungaria.” and “ Celonites / abbreviatus / var. hungaricus / Mocs. Typ.”. However, there is no evidence that A. Mocsáry has ever seen this specimen. The name is a junior synonym of Celonites abbreviatus ( Villers, 1789) ( Carpenter 2001) .
Celonites ivanovi Mauss & Fateryga, 2022 . A female and a male paratypes are available in ZISP, in accordance with the original description ( Mauss et al. 2022) .
Ceramius beyeri Brauns, 1903 View in CoL . There is a female in ZISP, collected by H. Brauns in Willowmore (type locality), with his handwritten identification label, and bearing a red label “ Typus.”. However, the specimen is labeled as collected in II.1906, i.e., after the description of this species .
Ceramius hispanicus Dusmet, 1909 View in CoL . There are four females in ZISP, collected by J. Dusmet in Jaramiel (one of the three localities mentioned in the original description), with his handwritten identification labels. One of them bears a golden disc, while three remaining specimens are with red labels “Cotype”. However, all four specimens are labeled as collected on 6.VII.1910, i.e., after the description of this species .
Ceramius schulthessi Brauns, 1902 View in CoL . There is a female in ZISP, collected by H. Brauns in Willowmore (type locality), with his handwritten identification label, and bearing a red label “Typus.”, but without a date. There is no evidence that it was indeed included in the type series collected in X.1899 ( Brauns 1902). Richards (1962) erroneously mentioned a specimen labeled as collected on 1.X.1899 as the “ holotype ” (actually Brauns reported a series of four females, i.e., syntypes); thus, the type series probably had dates on the labels. The name is a junior synonym of Ceramius cerceriformis de Saussure, 1853 View in CoL ( Carpenter 2001).
Jugurtia confusa Richards, 1962 View in CoL . There is a female from Reddersburg and a male from Willowmore (type locality) in ZMMU, collected by H. Brauns. A part of the same series was used by Richards (1962) to describe J. confusa View in CoL but these particular specimens were not mentioned in his paper (and thus, apparently not seen by him) .
Masarina familiaris Richards, 1962 View in CoL . There are two females and a male in ZMMU, collected by H. Brauns in Willowmore. A part of the same series was used by Richards (1962) to describe M. familiaris View in CoL but these particular specimens were not mentioned in his paper (and thus, apparently not seen by him) .
Masaris saussurei Brauns, 1905 View in CoL . There are a female and a male in ZMMU, collected by H. Brauns in Willowmore (type locality), with his handwritten identification labels, and bearing red blank labels. However, the specimens are labeled as collected on 22.IX.1906 and 18.VIII.1906, i.e., after the description of this species. The species is currently accepted as Jugurtia saussurei ( Brauns, 1905) ( Carpenter 2001) View in CoL .
Quartinia parvula Dusmet, 1909 View in CoL . There are a female and a male in ZISP, collected by J. Dusmet in Sierra de Guadarrama, with his handwritten identification labels, and bearing red labels “ Typus.”. However, they are labeled as collected on 26.VI.1916, i.e., after the description of this species .
Quartiniella waterstoni von Schulthess, 1929 . There are a female and a male in ZISP, collected by R. Turner in Little Karroo, 38 m E of Ceres (type locality), on 17–25.XI.1924. A part of the same series was used by von Schulthess (1929) to describe Q. waterstoni but these particular specimens are without his identification labels (and thus, apparently not seen by him). The species is currently accepted as Quartinia waterstoni ( von Schulthess, 1929) ( Carpenter 2001) View in CoL .
