Diagnosis: Ovoid body shape, dorso-ventrally compressed; deep oral cavity, opening on ventral side with a more internal tubular part, preceding the cytostome ( Fig. 17); dense somatic ciliature; striated band on dorsal surface, arising near right margin of oral cavity; usually one macronucleus (except for Plagiopyla binucleata ); extrusomes inserted in body cortex.
