‘ Clavatula ’ palatina Strausz, 1954 View in CoL species inquirenda
* Clavatula interrupta palatina nov. var. — Strausz 1954: 111, pl. 5, figs 102a–b.
Clavatula interrupta palatina Strausz, 1954 — Strausz 1966: 404, pl. 15, figs 9–10.
Type material. Holotype: Várpalota ( Hungary), SL: 33.1 mm, MD: 13.6 mm, illustrated in Strausz (1954, pl. 5, figs 102a–b). The specimen might have been deposited in the Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary ( Budapest) but is not found in the inventory.
Discussion. No material was available to us. The illustrations in Strausz (1954, 1966) show a subadult, mediumsized, biconic shell with a prominent central concavity adjoined by two slightly narrower, bifid to trifid adsutural spiral cords with small, close-set beads. The last whorl has a rounded periphery, slowly contracting covered with prominent, granulose, convex spiral cords crossed by growth lines. It differs from other species of the ‘ Clavatula ’ interrupta group in its dense, delicate sculpture.
Paleoenvironment. Coastal, inner neritic.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (middle Miocene): Pannonian Basin: Várpalota ( Hungary) ( Strausz 1954).
