Diagnosis
General colour dark brown. Hemitergal lobe elongate, medially constricted, apex swollen and small setae. Epiproct with an enlarged anterior membranous lobe near apex. Aedeagus with two dorsolateral lobes at base, apex tapering and ventrally hooked.
Description
Adult habitus. (Figure 3(a)). General colour dark brown. Head mostly brown, with a brown triangular originating from between posterior ocelli extending to centre of occiput. M-line brown. Antennae palpi yellow brown. Pronotum disc with dark brown rugosities and a wide, brown, longitudinal disjunct with thin black midline, lateral margins paler than disc (Figure 3(a)). Legs brown. Wings veins brown. Cerci brown.
Male. (Figure 3(b–f)). Fore wing length 14.7–14.9 mm, hind wing length 13.6–13.8 mm (N = 2).
bearing two patches of sensilla on the posterior margin, separated by a triangular medial notched area covers half length of tergum 9 (Figure 3(b)). Tergum 10 divided into two hemiterga. Hemitergal lobe in view short, extended posteriorly, medially constricted, apex swollen and covered by small setae, in view strongly curved upward, the lobe seemingly very elongate after being cleared (Figure Paragenital plate band-like and flat (Figure 3(c)). Basal anchor large and triangular in dorsal view and ventrally after the cowl being everted. Lateral arm large and arrow-like in dorsal view (Figure 3(c)).
stout and gently curved and connected to the epiproct apically (Figure 3(c,d)). Epiproct mostly sclerotised, apex with an enlarged anterior membranous lobe. Lateral stylet sclerotised, band-like with apex. Aedeagus mostly membranous with two rounded, dorsolateral lobes at base, medially dorsal view then tapering to a ventrally curved apex which is hooked in lateral view; the area posterior dorsolateral lobe mostly covered by dense, dark spinules of the same size.
Female. Unknown.
Etymology
The species epithet refers to the elongate hemitergal lobe which can be used to distinguish this new from its congeners and is presumed to be atypical for this genus.
Remarks
The new species is similar to Skwala americana ( Klapálek, 1912) . However, the epiproct of S. americana a bilobed anterior membranous area (see figs. 19–23 in Frison 1936), while in the new species, the membranous lobe is not divided. The elongate hemitergal lobe of the new species is easily distinguishable from those of other congeners. In addition, the lobe and the shape of the aedeagus are reminiscent new species of Arcynopteryx dichroa ( McLachlan, 1872) . However, Skwala longiloba lacks a slender needle-like stylet of the epiproct which is present in A. dichroa (see Teslenko 2012, figs. 2 and 5).
