Kernegaster chapadanus Eger & Schmitz sp. nov.
( Fig. 1 L; Fig. 8 I; Fig. 9 I; Fig. 15)
Type Material (03): Holotype. (1F) BRAZIL, Amazonas: Manaus, 14.VII.2016, Amício ( INPA) .
Paratypes. BRAZIL, [Mato Grosso]: Chapada [dos Guimar˜aes], (1F, 1M), no date or collector ( CMNH) .
Color pattern. Yellow to orange, with numerous dark, evenly spaced macules ( Fig. 15 A). Head. Clypeus with anterior and median spots and 1 + 1 longitudinal dark stripes between the eyes. Mandibular plates with anterior and distal portions with 1 + 1 dark blotches. Antennomeres I bicolored (first three-quarters yellow), remaining mostly dark. Rostrum segments I–II mainly light yellow, segment III with a median dark blotch, and segment IV mostly dark. Thorax. Pronotum and scutellum with many small dark spots evenly distributed. Femur with proximal dark blotch absent, distal blotch present; tibia with medial and distal dark blotch; first and last tarsomere dark, remaining tarsomere yellow.
Abdomen. Connexiva yellow to orange, with a small anterior macule and a posterior large dark macule. Ventral pattern. Lateral rows with a few dark spots on each sternite or completely absent. Median rows with two small dense spots in each sternite; inner row with sparse spots in each sternite, not culminating into a larger blotch. Stridulatory area without blotches. Area adjacent to the spiracles dark ( Fig. 15 B).
Head. Slightly wider than long. Clypeus clearly surpassing mandibular plates. Maxillar plates not surpassing mandibular plates in length. Rostrum reaching or almost reaching the IV sternite. Thorax. Pronotum with anterolateral margins sub-rectilinear, humeral angles rounded and not produced (less than a quarter of the width of the eye). Peritreme spout-like, developed, about four times longer than wide ( Fig. 8 I).
Abdomen. Posterior margin of sternite VII uniformly concave ( Fig. 9 I).
Genital plates. Valvifers VIII broadly subtriangular, anterior margin convex, sutural margins truncated posteriorly, posterior margin sub-rectilinear. Laterotergite IX sub-rectangular, anterior margin sub-rectangular, angles not produced ( Fig. 9 I).
Genital capsule. Posterior margin sub-rectilinear ( Fig. 15 C). Ventral rim convex in posterior view ( Fig. 15 D).
Measures. Body length (9.5–9.8) and width (6.5–6.6). Head length (2.0–2.15) and width (3–3.1).
Distribution: Only known from Brazil: Amazonas state and supposedly Mato Grosso state.
Etymology and comments. The epithet refers to the first locality where the species was found. The single male was callow and somewhat delicate so we did not dissect the male genitalia. The holotype from Manaus was chosen because it is better preserved. There are many localities named Chapada in Brazil, in brackets the locality we assume to be based on other species distributions with the same label info and that the name Chapada is more commonly used to address Chapada dos Guimar˜aes ( MG). It is small, such as K. diminutus , but has a distinct color pattern and genital plates.
