Coralliophila (Coralliophila) serraticincta Bałuk, 1995: 231 View in CoL (pars.).

non Coralliophila serraticincta Bałuk, 1995: 231 View in CoL , pl. 27, fig. 10.

Material. Z. PAL.U.W., unnumbered specimen cited by Bałuk (1995: 231) as the smaller specimen, SL: 5.1 mm, MD: 3.4 mm, Korytnica ( Poland), figs. 45C 1 –C 2.

Description. Very small, stocky fusiform shell; apical angle 65°. Protoconch conical of two smooth, convex whorls. Teleoconch of up to four whorls. Suture weakly incised, shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls strongly convex with faint shoulder. Axial sculpture of nine prominent axial ribs separated by slightly wider interspaces. Axial ribs overrun by very prominent P1–P3, IP slightly weaker. Last whorl attaining 75% of total height, globose with convex subsutural ramp and indistinct shoulder; convex below, strongly constricted. Nine broad, low axial ribs. Spiral sculpture of broad, prominent, convex, close-set adis, IP and abis; P1 most prominent, P2–P6, s1, s2 slightly weaker, ADP, MP broad, ABP weaker. Interspaces deep, wide, flattish. Spiral cords weakly scabrose. Fasciole swollen, delimiting broad pseudoumbilicus.Aperture ovate; outer lip with crenulate edge, slightly flaring, smooth within. Anal canal broad, subobsolete. Siphonal canal moderately short, wide, open, slightly bent to the left. Columella weakly excavated in adapical part, twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming narrow, impressed rim.

Discussion. When describing Coralliophila serraticincta Bałuk, 1995 , Bałuk (1995: 231) mentioned two specimens, the holotype and a second unfigured smaller specimen that he considered conspecific. However, this second specimen displays several differences from the holotype ( Bałuk 1995: pl. 27, fig. 10). On the spire, P1 does not form a strong shoulder and P2 is not reduced as it is in the holotype; on the last whorl, P1 and P2 are not separated by a deep spiral groove and s1 is much more prominent. Consequently, and in the absence of information on the variability of C. serraticincta , we cannot be certain that both specimens are conspecific and therefore the second smaller specimen is provisionally left in open nomenclature as Coralliophila sp. 2 .

Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Korytnica Basin: Korytnica ( Bałuk 1995).
