Coralliophila (Pseudomurex) bracteata ( Brocchi, 1814) View in CoL — Bałuk 1995: 233, pl. 25, figs. 6–7 [non Coralliophila bracteata ( Brocchi, 1814) View in CoL ].
Material. BkK-G606-607, SL: 7.1 mm, MD: 4.3 mm, Korytnica ( Poland), figs. 45B 1 –B 2.
Description. Small, broad fusiform shell; apical angle 65°. Protoconch high conical of three smooth, moderately convex whorls. Teleoconch of at least three whorls. Spire whorls low, broad with broad, shallow, weakly convex subsutural ramp, angled shoulder, moderately convex below. Suture distinctly incised. Axial sculpture of 12 prominent, scabrose ribs separated by wider interspaces, overrun by very prominent, band-like spiral cords. First whorl with prominent P1 and P2; second whorl: prominent P1–P2 and weak IP. Last whorl attaining 75–80% of total height, with broad shallow subsutural ramp, slightly angled shoulder, strongly convex periphery, strongly constricted below. Subsutural ramp with weak adis, IP and abis; shoulder with prominent P1; P2–P5 prominent with wide interspaces often scabrose; P6 weaker; s1–s6 abapically strengthening, prominent in fully grown specimens. P1 and P2 with short spines (fig. 7 in Bałuk 1995). ADP and MP slightly broader; ABP, ms and ads weak (fig. 7 in Bałuk 1995). Fasciole weak. Aperture moderately wide, ovoid. Columella moderately excavated, twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming narrow, adherent rim. Anal canal indistinct. Outer lip thin, smooth. Siphonal canal long, open, slightly bent to the left.
Discussion. Only two specimens from Korytnica ( Poland) are known so far. The smaller, incomplete specimen, illustrated in Bałuk (1995: pl. 25, fig. 6), is still available, whereas the larger specimen with missing early teleoconch whorls ( Bałuk1995:pl. 25, fig. 7), could not be found. This second, fully grown specimen shows a prominent, scabrose spiral sculpture with short spines on P1–P2. These specimens were identified by Bałuk (1995) as Coralliophila bracteata ( Brocchi, 1814) from the Mediterranean Pliocene. Coralliophila bracteata is a very characteristic species with a broad, almost flat subsutural ramp, strongly angled shoulder, conical base and strongly raised, band-like primary cords, which are often swollen over the raised but relatively narrow axial ribs. The Paratethyan species lacks an angulated shoulder, has a convex periphery, less exaggerated spiral cords and is surely not conspecific with C. bracteata . Due to the limited material, we refrain from describing it formally as new species.
Paleoenvironment. Unknown.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Korytnica Basin: Korytnica ( Bałuk 1995).
