Type material. Lectotype (designated herein): NHMW 1862/0019/0032a, SL: 17.2 mm, MD: 12.5 mm, Rudice ( Czech Republic), illustrated in Hoernes & Auinger (1885, pl. 24, fig. 17), figs. 43A 1 –A 3 . Paralectotype: NHMW 1862/0019/0032b, SL: 13.3 mm, MD: 11.6 mm, Rudice ( Czech Republic), figs. 43B 1 –B 3 .
Revised description. Small, stocky, biconic shell; apical angle ~45°. Protoconch and early teleoconch whorls unknown. Last two spire whorls with very steep, straight-sided subsutural ramp, and angled shoulder placed close above deeply incised suture; spiral sculpture of adis, IP, abis, P1, s1; IP, abis prominent, adis weaker; P1 forming most prominent cord along shoulder. Axial sculpture of eight narrow, slightly lamellose varices separated by wide, flattish interspaces. Last whorl allometrically widening with convex subsutural ramp, moderately angled shoulder, weakly convex periphery, rapidly contracting below. Eight narrow, prominent, lamellose varices overrun by prominent, widely spaced, rounded primary cords. On subsutural ramp spiral sculpture similar to penultimate whorl; on convex part of whorl P1 most prominent, P2–P5 prominent of subequal strength, P6 weaker; ADP, MP, ABP forming prominent, close-set cords; s1, s5, ms weak. Fasciole strongly swollen, twisted, delimiting broad, deep pseudoumbilicus. Aperture wide, subcircular. Outer lip broken, smooth within. Anal canal very wide, indistinct. Siphonal canal moderately short, open, moderately narrow, slightly bent to the right. Columella excavated, smooth, twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming broad, thick rim, erect at siphonal canal, adherent in parietal area.
Discussion. A very peculiar species with wide-spaced lamellose varices. We are not aware of similar species in the Neogene of the Circum-Mediterranean Region but note that the extant Mediterranean Coralliophila richardi ( Fischer, 1882) is similar, differing mainly in its lower spire, shorter subsutural ramp and weaker secondary spiral cords. Both species seem to be closely related.
Paleoenvironment. Probably middle to outer neritic based on co-occurring assemblage (own data M.H.). Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Carpathian Foreland Basin: Rudice ( Czech
Republic) (Hoernes & Auinger 1885).
