Type material. Lectotype (designated herein): NHMW 1856/0007/0035b, SL: 19.5 mm, MD: 13.5 mm, Lăpugiu de Sus ( Romania), illustrated in Hoernes & Auinger (1885: pl. 27, fig. 10), figs. 42A 1 –A 3 . Paralectotype: NHMW 1856/0007/0035a, SL: 14.3 mm, MD: 9.2 mm, Lăpugiu de Sus ( Romania), illustrated in Hoernes & Auinger (1885: pl. 27, fig. 9), figs. 42B 1 –B 3 .
Revised description. Medium-sized,broadly fusiform shell, apical angle~65°.Protoconch unknown.Teleoconch of up to five whorls. Suture moderately incised, shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls with moderately steep, straight-sided subsutural ramp, angled shoulder, weakly incised below. Axial sculpture of ten broad axial ribs, persisting over subsutural ramp. Spiral sculpture of adis, IP, abis and tertiary cords of equal strength, separated by narrow interspaces. P1 along shoulder slightly more prominent; P2 slightly weaker; s1, s2 slightly weaker still. Last whorl attaining ~75%; ovate, with convex subsutural ramp, convex periphery, moderately constricted below. About eight broad axial ribs most prominent along periphery. Subsutural ramp with adis, IP, abis, intercalated by subequal tertiary cord. P1 slightly more prominent, P2, P4, P6 weak, P3, P5 forming two prominent, rounded, raised cords, P6 delimiting base; secondary cords (s1–s6, ads, ms) and ADP, MP, ABP of subequal strength; ABP weak all cords faintly scabrose. Fasciole moderately swollen, delimiting broad, deep pseudoumbilicus. Aperture wide, ovate; outer lip thin, weakly crenulate, smooth within. Anal canal indistinct, wide. Siphonal canal moderately long, wide, open, slightly bent to the left. Columella broadly excavated, smooth, slightly twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming narrow rim, erect at siphonal canal, thin, adherent in parietal area.
Discussion. This species is characterized by its convex periphery and strongly raised P3 and P5. There is no comparable species in the European Neogene but the extant Coralliophila erosa ( Röding, 1798) , from the Indo-West Pacific, is a morphologically very similar concerning sculpture with prominent P3 and P5 and comparable outline and apertural features. It differs from Coralliophila hochstetteri (Hoernes & Auinger, 1885) in its broader and more biconic shell.
Paleoenvironment. Unknown.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Făget Basin: CoŞteiu de Sus, Lăpugiu de
Sus ( Romania) ( Boettger 1902).
