Strigamia auxa ( Chamberlin, 1954) *
References for morphology: Chamberlin 1954.
Taxonomic notes. Described originally as a species of Korynia View in CoL , it was not cited further, but its validity was never questioned. It is assigned here to Strigamia View in CoL for the first time ( new combination), because it shares all major diagnostic features of Strigamia View in CoL (see above under “Notes on synonymies”). However, it is maintained here as a distinct species only tentatively and it could turn out to be a junior synonym of S. fusata (see below), because the original description of S. auxa by Chamberlin (1954) is fully consistent with the redescription of S. fusata by Crabill (1962a); a single difference can be hypothesized in the size of the basal denticle of the forcipular tarsungulum (described as small and conical in S. auxa , illustrated as rather conspicuous in S. fusata ); it is worth noting that the geographical provenance of S. auxa is within the range of S. fusata , and Chamberlin did not provide a comparison between these two species.
Distribution: known from a single locality in the Sierra Nevada, California.
