Brief diagnosis. Males with two lateral patches in T-4 ( Figs. 6a, 10b). Females, shape of the paraprocts ( Figs. 6J, 10w); separates this species from P. cinctus .

Variations. It presents a general coloration from honey to brown tones, the pronotum has at least seven more or less typified forms, with an internal gradient; the tone of the abdomen and legs is widely variable from amber tones to ash tones; at least four color forms were found in the reviewed material.

Form saussurei ( Fig. 14b): The holotype female agrees with this form, the body tone is almost amber, legs almost black, the pronotum yellowish with a black macula near the posterior border.

Form aberrante ( Fig. 14c): Body and leg tones similar to the form saussurei, the pronotum with distinctive disc macules.

Form confusa ( Fig. 14d): Similar to the form saussurei, but with darker tones.

Form pyriformis ( Fig. 14e): Shades similar to a form confusa, but the pronotum with a flame-shaped pronotal macula.

Type material. 1 holotype female Thyrsocera gueriniana Saussure, 1862 . Mexique, col. Guerin[=Guérin-Méneville] [ MHNG], revised. (not in MNHN sensu Shelford 1906: 259 [The type is in the Paris Museum]). Pseudomops nigrimacullis Fisk, 1977 . 1 holotype female Mexico, Chiapas, Ocozocoautla, Cueva del Aguacero (LT), 530 m; not found.

Allotype male: México, Veracruz, Mpty. Xalapa, Santuario del Bosque de Niebla (96°55’24.92”W, 19°32’16.25”N, 1460 msnm, bosque mesófilo de montaña); Sormani, H.C.G. and Ángeles, V.J.A. Col., colecta manual; V/2005 [ IEXA]. GoogleMaps

GUATEMALA. 1 female, Cunnen , Guate., 6000 ft.; Aug. 11. 47 ; col. C & P Vaurie [F. Johnson Donor] [ AMNH _IZC_00398287] .

Note. RBINS material determined as Pseudomops guerinianus by Saussure in Vanschuytbroeck 1970: 21 [2 exemplaires: Thereopolis: Coll. C. Van Volxem (photos supplied by Camille Locatelli, RBINS)], it does not belong to P. guerinianus , it really belongs to Pseudomops magnifica Rocha e Silva, 1973 (Sonia M. Lopes F. (†), MNRJ determination), thereby establishing new record for this Brazilian species.

Distribution. MÉXICO, Chiapas, Mpty. Ocozocoautla (Cueva del del Aguacero); Mpty. Tuxtla Gutiérrez (Tuxtla Gutiérrez). Veracruz, Mpty. Xalapa (Santuario del Bosque de Niebla) and Estación de Biología Tropical Los Tuxtlas. GUATEMALA, Quiché, Cunén ( Fig. 19).

Biogeography. Neotropical, endemic in Mexican Gulf province (mg); with penetration into Chiapas (chi), at an altitude of 513-1,827 m ( Fig. 19).

Bionomics. This species was collected in the vicinity of streams, on the ground.

Interceptus Group

Small species (12.0- 19.75 mm), sexual dimorphism in the antennas absent, both sexes with slightly hirsute antenna and annulli posterior to the hirsute third; males with T-3 and T-4 tergites with two central tufts, T-8 with two whisker-shaped piliform strand structures, conspicuously smaller than in the Cinctus group, right paraproctum with posterior finger-like projection; R2 with a simple or bifid spine.

Composition ( USA and Central America). Pseudomops interceptus ( Burmeister, 1838) , Pseudomops septentrionalis Hebard, 1917 , Pseudomops gratus Rehn, 1903 .
