DESCRIPTION
CMN 41912 and the other referred specimens were recovered from the Kem Kem beds but their exact provenances within this vast geological sequence are unknown. All share all but one diagnostic feature of Elosuchus cherifiensis , the waisted anterior supratemporal bar. Instead, this bar in these specimens is broad and sculpted like that of SAM 129, Elosuchus broinae . Other autapomorphies of E. broinae are absent. E 1, CMN 41912 and SAM 129 are all adult specimens and these particular morphologies do not vary within adult extant crocodylian species. Because of the broad 8-Myr temporal range of the Kem Kem beds, we tentatively refer these Elosuchus indet . specimens to E. cherifiensis . Their differences may, however, indicate another taxon within the Kem Kem beds.
margin of the squamosal is gently notched over the auditory meatus, creating a sinusoidal border. The postorbital bar is orientated anteroventrally and is nearly circular in cross-section. The anterior and posterior margins of the bar are linear. The only
