Distribution
European-Middle Asian species. The northern border of its continuous range in Europe locates about 52° N. One of the northernmost localities of C. impressus continuous range lies in the Erzgebirges Mountains on the boundary between Germany and Czech Republic ( STYS 1963), but a few isolated localities of the species were also found in the southern parts of Poland on the xerothermic localities ( LIS 1989). This species is characterised by a large amplitude of vertical distribution, as was confirmed by many authors ( TAMANINI 1982, STYS 1963, HEISS 1977, VOIGT 1980, STEHLIK 1983, LIS 1989). Specimens from the collection of the Natural History Museum have been collected at]ow altitudes, not exceedexceeding 500 m. In Poland the species was also collected at very low altitudes, between 200 and 500 m a.s.l. ( LIS 1989).
Remarks
Mountain species. In ex-Yugoslavia it was recorded in many high mountains: Alps, Kopaonik, Durmitor, Sara, Korab. Previously, it was considered a monophagous species living on Thesium alpinum . However, results of many studies have shown that it was a poliphagous species. TAMANINI (1982) recorded it in the northern Italy on T. montanum and T. bavarum , and SCHUSTER (1979) in the Schwaben area on T. linophyllum . Even more precise data on plants were presented by STEHLIK (1983), who collected this species at Vesely Zleb, Jedornice (550 m a.s.l.) on Euphorbia ciparissias , as well as on almost all other plants at that locality. In Bulgaria it was caught at as low altitude as 170 m on the Vitosha Mt. ( JOSIFOV 1969). In some areas it coexits with C. dubius. Many authors ( RIEGER 1973, HEISS 1977, GUNTHER 1981, STEHLIK 1983) confirmed that C. impressus was more abundant than C. dubius.
