Remarks: This is a polytypic species. The nominal subspecies presents a wide distribution throughout the European Mediterranean Basin, reaching the Minor Asia region and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tadzhikistan ( Lorenz 2021). Microlestes luctuosus chobauti is native to France, some North African countries ( Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia) and the Macaronesian archipelagos of Madeira and Canaries. It was found beneath the stones and tufts of herbaceous vegetation, together with Bembidion tethys .
