Distribution ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ). A Betico-Maghrebin species with wide Maghreb distribution, in northern Morocco to Tunisia and extending in Andalucía. In Morocco, this species was reported for the first time by Aubert (1961) from a Rifan stream near Mount Tidirhine. It has also been collected in several other localities in the Rif ( Meinander 1967, Sánchez-Ortega & Azzouz 1998, Errochdi & El Alami 2008, Errochdi et al. 2014), Middle Atlas ( Dakki 1987), North Atlantic Morocco (Mamora-Zemmour) and in the Central Plateau ( El Agbani et al. 1992) between 10 and 2000 m. However, it seems to be absent in eastern Morocco and the High Atlas. Indeed, specimens of C. petitpierreae cited by Bouzidi & Giudicelli (1994) in the High Atlas were assigned to C. atlasica (Vinçon et al. 2014) .
Ecology. In the Middle Atlas, C. petitpierreae is only reported from high altitude brooks and torrents ( 1500–1700 m), but in the rest of the Maghreb, it is more eurytopic and even present in lower stream reaches ( Sánchez-Ortega & Azzouz 1998, Errochdi & El Alami 2008). Larvae are detritivores ( Azzouz & Sánchez-Ortega 2000) and the adult emergence period extends from autumn into spring season (X–IV).
