In Scandinavia white-flowered plants have been referred incorrectly to E. rubescens Rydb. , which is a synonym of E. saximontanum Hausskn. Very similar plants, with longer petioles (3-)4-6mm, from Denmark, Sweden and Finland, may be referable to E. ciliatum Rafin. { E. americanum Hausskn. ), another North American species.
